Hi folks: I'm trying to plan for drive space, so I'd like to know how much video storage space is required (per minute for example) for both 4 and 6 Sony PS3 cameras recording Bayer video at 640x480. Thanks, Michael |

I've got a Blackmagic Intensity card for HD uncompressed capture, and it tests my current RAID 0 at 136MB/s write and 207 MB/s read. That might almost be enough for 6 cameras, but I'll test it. My plan is to upgrade the raid if it isn't fast enough. Michael |

Hi folks: I've installed the Seagate Momentus XT drives, and I'm a little disappointed: 201.8MB/s read speed and 160.1 MB/s write speed It might be enough for 6 cameras, but I would have preferred more headroom. I'm really trying to avoid having to get a new computer with super-expensive SSD's. I should be getting my cameras tomorrow, so maybe this weekend will be good for testing. I've already got my funny green shirt, and my funny blue tights should be here tomorrow. Needless to say, I won't be posting any video of me in that getup. I may post video of my dancers at some point. Letcha know how the camera testing goes, Michael |

OK, I ran the drive speed test multiple times and got values between 147.7 and 199.9 MB/s with bi-modal peaks at 175 and 195 MB/s. I don't know why it's bimodal, but I'm concerned about the lowest end and the implication for dropped frames. I've got a USB3 card that says it requires XP SP3, and I've only got SP2 (Windows won't let me upgrade to SP3, so I'll have to reformat the boot drive and reinstall all mysoftware if I need SP3). I'm hoping that the USB2 option will run under SP2 otherwise I'm going to get a USB2 card instead. More as it develops, Michael |

RY_ID/7811 My PS3 eye cameras and USB extender cables arrived today. I'm hoping to install the USB 3 card tonight and maybe start testing the cameras. I had a problem with the getting to the website for the camera drivers in IE, so I'll try to download it on my laptop and see if that works. I also had to get extra power Y-cables today since the USB3 and new graphics card both need extra juice from the power supply. When I was at the computer store, the guy told me that I might not see much greater speed if I got SSD drives with my SATA3 RAID controller. I'll see how well the Seagate hybrid drives do first before I exchange them for SSD drives. I really don't think I can afford to buy a whole new Mega-rig just for the 6 camera setup.
