You can just try running iPi Recorder and making a record. If your cameras are not of the same model, they should at least have compatible video modes. However, most regular webcams are not suitable for recording mocap data because of low (below 30fps) and unstable frame rate they provide. |

Just to confirm, as a longtime iPi DMC user I wouldn't recommend ordinary webcams either. My wife and I started out using Logitech Webcams, which were expensive and difficult to work with. When iPi Soft added PS3 Eye camera support, their mocap system became much easier to use and the quality of the capture data improved dramatically. Even better, the PS3 Eye camera is far cheaper ($30 each) than most USB webcams with similar specs. (At the time, the Logitech Pro 9000 cameras cost around $80 each, and they were vastly inferior to the PS3 Eye cameras.) FYI, these days I prefer using two Kinect cameras because they're even easier to set up and use and the resulting quality is pretty decent. But the PS3 Eye cameras can still produce higher quality. If you have adequate space to use PS3 Eye and you don't mind the extra work required for setup, they're a good way to go. If you don't have a lot of time or space, go with Kinect. In my opinion, using either system, Kinect or PS3 Eye is far better than fiddling around with 'non-standard' web cameras. You can probably make other cameras work with DMC but I think you may be discouraged by the extra work involved and sketchy results. Hope this helps. G. |
