| Post subject: | 6 PS EYE |
Hi we just bought 6 USB PS eye cameras I have 6 ports but my mouse and keyboard occupy two, the four I can plug in are fine If I plug a multi port hub into two of my ports can I use them for two cameras each, or should I move to get pci cards if so can anyone point me in the direction of PCI USB cards that are actually individual hubs rather than 4 into 1 say ? Hello, Nik The number of cameras you can connect to your existing USB ports depend on the number of USB controllers. For 640x480@60fps mode you'll need 1 USB controller per 2 cameras. Most probably, you've got 2 USB 2.0 controllers. In that case, you can use 4 cameras at full 60fps speed, or 6 cameras (with hub) at a lower framerate, 40-50. If you need 6 cameras at 60fps, then go with PCI (or PCI Express) USB card. Amazon has plenty of them, for example: http://www.amazon.com/SD-NECU2-3E1I-NEC-Chipset-NEC720102-Ports/dp/B000BL0ARQ http://www.amazon.com/SY-PEX20045-PCI-Express-Controller-uPD720200-Chipset/dp/B00JOC6XDS Before purchasing, consult our wiki on known compatibility issues between cameras and USB chipsets to avoid getting into troubles: http://wiki.ipisoft.com/USB_controllers USB chipset used in PCI(e) card is usually stated on the card's vendor website. |
