Hello, first, we do not recommend to get out of sight in any camera during tracking. This often leads to tracking errors that require manual clean-up, which takes time. So just use "inner" circle. In you case it can be up to 30 by 30 feet (48 - 9 - 9 = 30).
We ourselves tested setup with maximum distance from camera to actor around 30 feet. With bigger distance (you have around 40 feet) there is a risk that actor image on video become too small for tracking. But you can give it a try.
For single-actor capture 8 cameras is quite enough. Circle setup you described is perfect, but we recommend to place 3-4 cameras at increased heights (8-10 feet).
Adding more cameras is always good, but this increase processing time. If you plan to track multiple actors, you'd better use 12-16 cameras. Circle setup with 1/3 of cameras at increased heights is the best option.
Lighting ideally should be ambient. Actor clothes colors should be clearly distinguishable, and look the same in all cameras.
