Hello, i am not an xbox user but i am interested for using 1 or 2 kinect with ipi soft to speed-up my animation workflow for videogame, but i have 2 questions :
1 - I hear about a pc version of kinect for 2012 is the pc version suported ? (look like this version have better fov & sensor)
2 - can i record simple move like orc attacking with an axe but stay in the same place with only one kinect or should i buy the two kinect first time to be good ?

thx

If you're just standing in place, single Kinect should be able to capture this motion easily. Single Kinect works well for limited action, meaning that you're not walking around a lot. That said, it can still be used to capture a wide range of useful motions. Some occlusion issues can be compensated for during performance--this just takes practice and an understanding of what's possible with the system. Tracking is not super accurate but the motions can still look good.

If you plan to do a lot of 'action' motions, dual Kinect is the way to go. You can still have some occlusion issues but it's not nearly the problem you get with a single Kinect. Overall quality of dual Kinect capture is more accurate and stable.

The best is six PS3 Eye cameras but this requires more space and horsepower to use effectively. I use both systems, Kinect first because it's convenient and reserve PS3 Eye for bigger scenes and more complicated motions, or if I feel Kinect isn't quite good enough.

Before deciding, you need to ask yourself how much mocap do you plan to shoot and what is level of accuracy you will find acceptable. Luckily, iPi DMC is scaleble so you can start small and add cameras/upgrades as you grow.

Hope this helps.

G.

Wow, I just buy 1 kinect sensor and 15 min later i got my first capture into poser.
The soft is easy and the setup for one kinect is really quick and easy.

Of course the tracking can't be perfect with only one kinect, for example if i twist my chest the sensor loose track of my shoulder but this is that i expected to be.
