Hi all,

I'm just shuttling through some test shots in Ipi, and I'm thinking to myself how easy it would be to work with takes, if I could hear an audio cue from the director embedded in the clips that are generated from ipi Recorder.
I mean, my laptop has the capabilities to record from it's webcam, or I could plug in an external mic if need be.

Is there a way of doing this? so that you can hear a basic audio track alongside the Kinect footage in ipiRecorder?

Forgive me if there is one already...I just didn't spot it.

Hello!

Unfortunately, currently there is no audio recording/playback capability in our software. We are also sure it is a useful feature, and we have it on our list but with relatively low priority. We hope it could be implemented during V2 lifetime sometime later this year. Nevertheless, thanks for your suggestion.

When audio is important (as it is in our current project because it's a music video) we also record the motion with a video camera with a microphone. To synchronize the audio with the mocap data, just clap your hands immediately after recording the T-Pose. In our situation, we also have the soundtrack playing in the background to guide the performer's timing and rhythm.

Some of this was also done for 'Happy Box' to help synchronize the interaction between multiple characters.

At the moment, I'm using a little sony camera to record each of the takes from the corner of the set, and I do try and use the RGB feed from the Kinects as well to sync, but this is such a stupid and inaccurate way to do it.

Ipi...please if you can (pretty, pretty please) make Ipi Recorder record from the webcam.....just a low audio rate would do. ;)

I do all my audio syncing with 'Pluraleyes' in FCP now, so all I need is a bit of audio waveform and it saves me hours of guessing.

Many thanks :)

OK, finally Recorder has got the audio recording capability in v2.2.0.24. Also update Mocap Studio to v2.3.2.150 to play audio from recordings.

That's fantastic news! Audio will be very helpful for synchronizing motion edits, espeically with multiple characters. I've been able to do it here because I'm very familiar with our score/dialog track and I'm doing most of the mocap myself, but even then it would be helpful to hear the audio directly associated with the recorded mocap data.

Thank you very much for this feature guys!

G.

Bravo Ipi! Finally I don't have to rely on pips and arm signals as in points. Well done chaps :)
