Hello,

First, i have to apologize because my english can be really bad, but i try to be as exact as i can be, thanks for your comprehension.

I'm a graphic designer working on mac and the last time i used a PC was years ago.
I would love to get my hand on the trial version of Ipisoft and try it with my brand new kinect sensor, and use mocap data in poser pro 2012 for animations, but can't afford a PC right now, so i've tried to install Ipisoft with virtualBox, but the problem is that i can't proceed the installation because my virtual graphic card does not support model shaders 4.0. I suppose a mac os version of ipisoft is not going to be released or at least in the next weeks.

I would like to know if someone has already tried to do the same thing, i thought maybe it would work using bootcamp but i don't use it right now and don't want to lose time to try it if it's not going to work ;
Also, Is a ssd harddrive really necessary to use ipisoft with one kinect sensor ? Maybe, in my case, would you recommend to try Brekel or the poser plugin "Motion Capture Assistant for Poser " ? Or another alternative ? I think i'll have to buy and learn motionbuilder too, also iclone 5 seems to have a kinect recording plugin. The results i've seen in videos from ipisoft software looks really great and don't seem to need a lot of postwork so it's the most interesting option for me, but if it's not possible with my hardware situation, why not try something else.

Any advice or tip is welcome :) Anyway, thanks to the ipisoft developpers, you are doing a great job (but i would love a mac os version haha) !

Hi

Our software does not work in virtual environments because of heavy usage of hardware like cameras and video card. So to run it on Mac you should use bootcamp.

You absolutely don't need an SSD for single (or even dual) Kinect recording, regular SATA3 HDD will fit.

We do not plan to release the Mac version in the near future. Our software heavily relies on Microsoft technologies like DirectX and .NET, so making the Mac version basically means writing a whole new product, and thus requires much resources we cannot afford.

Hi, there are a lot of users reporting excessive heat when using Bootcamp for Gaming, under Windows. No Problem with ipisoft?

Not on my iMac, but it might be different for a notebook user.

Hi, thanks for your answer. Ah, you have an iMac! Macbook Pro user cannot seriously run Windows 7 under Bootcamp I could read, especially with CPU/GPU intensive applications like ipisoft. The laptop is overheating very quickly.

I think I'll buy a PC box for ipisoft...

Best regards!

Philippe

Be sure to get a decent gaming graphics card. You'll be glad you did--tracking speed is highly dependent on it. Almost any Nvidia Geforce GTX card, model 460 and above should be suitable for production use.

Also, if you plan to use PS3 Eye cameras for capture, make sure you have enough USB controllers (not USB ports, that's different,) and preferably USB 3.0. This is somewhat less critical if you use Kinect but you may as well be ready for expansion if you need it.

I think the recommended specs are in the wiki so be sure to look there for additional info.

G.
