I wonder if I just have my BMI set too high. I seem to get better results when I turn it down a bit.

Are there any tips for what the optimal settings should be for the Actor parameters? Should I be matching actual body proportions as closely as possible or making them slightly smaller or larger?

I set the BMI to the minimum value. This probably isn't optimal because the geometry looks much 'skinnier' than my actual body but so far it appears to be tracking a bit better. It seems less jittery and chaotic anyway.

I'll continue working with this and let you know how it goes this this afternoon.

Here's another example of the shoulder issue. This is from a different capture video and all we're seeing here is the performer going from T-Pose to lowering arms. As you can see in this sequence, the right shoulder is already rising up before the arms have completely lowered. From this point, the shoulder tends to stay up in this high position.

I'll track the rest of this motion--I suspect it this error will gradually develop into the bent spine shown at the beginning of this thread. I'll let you how this goes in a bit.

BTW, I think my shirt might be too 'baggy' around the arms which may be confusing the tracker--I'll try a closer fitting shirt next.

This is from the same motion data about 200 frames into the action. As you can see, the right shoulder is still raised.

The right arm seems harder to track as well, even though it's more or less doing what the left arm is doing.

Here's a frame where I had to disable Shoulder Tracking because Studio was pushing the shoulder completely outside the body (the picture shown is without Shoulder Tracking.) Disabling Shoulder Tracking and clicking Refit Pose pushed the shoulder back into the body but as you can see the shoulder is still raised up higher than it should be.

As described earlier, this one case where clicking Refit Pose at first displays a more correct looking shoulder but then settles on this raised pose.

Here's an example of where the right shoulder is being pushed completely outside the body. Note in the video image, the shoulder is supposed to be posed quite low.

It's worth noting that the problem is consistently with the right side. The left side tends to be trouble free. This makes me think the shoulder problem is related to the bending spine and hips issue since it too seems to favor one side of the body.

I suffer this too Greenlaw. If it happens I try a little rotation to get it back to where it should be but I often accept that I will need to clean up the anim in an external package.

It is odd though, it only happens sometimes for me and is by no means consistent.

Yes, there is definitely something going on with the right side tracking. In in one segment of this this same video I'm doing some quick symmetrical arm movements and the left arm is tracking this motion fairly accurately while the right arm is very stiff and lacking detail. The point cloud looks more or less symmetrical so I don't think it's from faulty data.

I think I'll send this file to you guys later tonight along with the calibration scene.

So far, I'm not seeing the spine bending problem with this motion file. I shot many tests today so I'm sure it will pop up again.

Yes, it's strange. I can manually move the shoulder down into correct position but once I click Refit Pose, it wants to pop up again, even when the arms are down. My impression is that there is code in place to help assist the direction the shoulders should rotate towards but it's working backwards for the right shoulder, rotating it up when it should be rotating down.

Aha! I am almost certain of this now.

In this example, both arms are raised up, so both shoulders should rotated up too. However, in this situation, while the left shoulder looks correct, the right shoulder appears to be rotating downward. This looks like the same shoulder problem inverted.
