Hi,

Im new to this software (v2) and ive managed to calibrate and record my footage from 4 PS eye cameras. When i try to track my footage its taking up to 23 seconds per frame meaning my project tracking time is over 20 hours. i saw some threads from 2009 giving 0.6 seconds per frame on outdated equipment. Im running a quad core AMD with Nvidia 1GB graphics and its taking ages. ive also tried it on an Intel i5 with Intel HD Graphics but the same result keeps coming up.

Am i doing anything wrong or is there anything i can do to speed up the process?

Thanks

Jack :)

Yes, that is quite lame result. I think I've read from the forum similar problems with Intel HD. Anyway, most likely your problem is weak/incompatible display adapter. Nvidia seems to outperform ATI (using iPiStudio) when you compare two cards that have equal performance in games etc. Without knowing what type your Nvidia is exactly, it is impossible to say really anything more accurate. Unless of course you try to use a laptop which doesn't realize the need for greater performance and uses some power saving display adapter instead. This has happened, too.

Yes, tracking speed is entirely dependent on your graphics card. What type of Nvidia card are you using? The fast ones for iPi Mocap Studio are the Geforce GTX series. Anything less is quite a bit slower.

There is a comparison chart in the wiki. It's a little out-of-date* but still useful:

http://wiki.ipisoft.com/Cameras_and_acc ... Video_Card

I have an old Geforce GTX 460, and with four PS3 Eye cameras, my time is about 0.67 second per frame. Newer GTX cards can be significantly faster than this.

*Prices, for example, are way out-of-date. I bought my Geforce GTX 460 for about $160 dollars a couple of years ago. Nowadays you should be able to get a better graphics card for this price or even cheaper.

Watch out for the Nvidia cards with a Kepler Architecture (GTX 680 and k5000) they are really really slow,
I tested 2 cards and they are both solving at 9 seconds per frame.

Thanks for the heads up! This is good to know. I'm not in the market for a new card just yet but will probably start looking for a new system later this year.

Ah okay this makes alot of sense now. i was under the impression that ipi used CPU not GPU! my graphics is an onboard nvidia of some sort. I have trouble finding graphics cards as my PC is a micro ATX case and so it only has low profile bays. Think its time for me to invest in some new hardware!!

Thanks for the replies!

Jack
