Oh, I didn't know you were one of the developers, bad ass, I get to talk to you! You are doing an amazing job to empower independent filmmakers! I will definitely promote IPISOFT once I start creating my independent films!

I had a few more questions. So if I decided to go the two kinect route, is this the appropriate buying list? Two Kinects, two USB repeater cables and possibly a new GPU for the desktop to process. Also, do you have any recommendations for the mounting of the Kinects?

I may wait to buy everything until the Kinect 2 comes out, sounds really exciting.

If you buy Kinects for XBOX, then you will also need power adapters for them. If you consider buying Kinect for Windows, then take a look also on PrimeSense Carmine 1.08 sensors - they are more compact, more light, produce less noise, and do not require external power at all. Unfortunately, in change, Carmine sensors have poorer compatibility with USB 3.0 controllers than Kinects, so it is better to test it with your laptop beforehand, or try to connect the manufacturer on compatibility with USB 3.0 controller in your laptop.
You'll also need a calibration board - something thin rectangular lightweight object, like a foamboard, of the minimum size 50x70cm. Regarding mounts - you can find several options at our web site:
http://ipisoft.com/store/hardware/

To wait or not to wait for Kinect 2? If you want to start doing mocap this year, I recommend not to wait. Kinect 2 bundled with XBOX One is not expected to be connectable to a PC and supported by Kinect SDK. And most probably it won't be sold separately from the console, at least for the first time. The ETA for Kinect 2 for Windows is somewhat later than XBOX One, maybe the beginning of the next year.

Hello,

-So about the Carmine 1.09 sensor. Does IPISOFT support dual sensors?

-Which option is qualitatively the best?

-Which option is the cheapest?

Hope you are having a good day!

Thank you again Vmaslov.

Please, read carefully - Carmine 1.08. 1.09 is a near mode model with range only up to 1.4m.
Yes, our software support dual configuration for any of the supported models of depth sensors (Kinect, Xtion, Carmine). You can see detailed comparison of these models in our wiki:
http://wiki.ipisoft.com/Depth_Sensors_Comparison
Kinect for XBOX is the cheapest, but is not officially allowed by MS to be used on PC. Kinect for Windows and other two models have the similar price tag about $200.

The Carmine 1.08 looks very good. I think I will get this one. I was reading the at your wiki: http://wiki.ipisoft.com/Depth_Sensors_Comparison

Do you think the drivers not being as good for the carmines to be a great set back? Can you tell me more about this?

Thank you.

You may expect occasional crashes of iPi Recorder (usually at launch time), or necessity to restart iPi Recorder to get sensor back working. These issues are indeed very rare, and should not bother you much.
The most considerable drawback is not ideal USB compatibility, which may become a showstopper in case of a laptop. Because you cannot just add a compatible USB controller, as with a desktop (unless the laptop has an ExpressCard slot). So I recommend again to find a way to ensure this compatibility before purchasing the sensors. Or at least purchase with an option of return.

Hi,

My computer has 3 USB 2.0 slots, so I think I should be fine. I am going to probably buy the Carmine 1.08 sensor and a white board soon.

what stand and USB cables do you recommend?

Thanks.

Any tripod you like which allows to place a camera in 1.0-1.5m range of height.
Monoprice repeater cables work good for us:

Okay thanks for all the help!

Is there anything else I am forgetting? This is my list (Carmine 1.08 sensor, white board, cable that you recommended and a tripod)

For the calibration board, will a thin poster board be sufficient? If I modify it to be more rigid?

Also, can you tell me more about if I decide to buy 2 xbox kinects? What do I need exactly for this?

Thanks a bunch, I am looking forward to buying IPISOFT, really great customer support here.
