After weeks of waiting, I finally got my Kinect for the 360. I wanted to test it (along with the trial iPi software) before I get an office from which to work on.

I downloaded the recorder, installed it and all the drivers and stuff needed, and when the times come to run it, it crashes. I've followed the guide on the wiki, and still nothing.

Problem: iPi Recorder crashes as soon as I try to open it. I'm using Windows Vista 64-bit. The error it gives me is a simply "...has stopped working."

Hi
Look for messages related to crash in the Windows event log. To open it: Start Menu > (right-click) Computer > Manage > (expand) Event Viewer > (expand) Windows Logs > Application.
Do you have any other drivers for Kinect installed besides those which come with iPi Recorder?

Nope, no other driver for the Kinect installed.

Just one error on the log:

Exception Info: System.DllNotFoundException

Just to ensure - have you installed the latest release of iPi Recorder (2.2.1.25)?
Try to reinstall the program in any case. Are any errors reported during the installation?

I used two different links for the software: one from the wiki, and one from the download section (both are the same), so yeah, the latest.

I've tried uninstalling, installing again. After restarting, without restarting, With a fresh download, with the same download. Same result.

No, the installation has gone smoothly every single time.

OK. Now please do two more things.
  • Run iPi Recorder. Do not close crash reporting window and open Task Manager. Locate iPiRecorder.exe process, right-click and click "Open file location". When folder containing iPiRecorder.exe is opened, check whether it contains file "OpenNI\amd64\OpenNI64.dll".
  • Install iPi Recorder from the MSI installer: http://files.ipisoft.com/iPiRecorder.msi. Better to remove the previous installation before. It will install iPi Recorder in usual place under "Program Files" folder (not using the ClickOnce deployment).

Yes, that file is there.

The new installer doesn't help. It still crashes.

Hi
Try to install Microsoft VC 2010 Runtime: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=14632
Does that help?

Cool!
I recommend you to revert back to exe-installer (ClickOnce), as MSI installation does not support automatic updates.
We will make necessary changes to distributions of the next releases to address this issue.
Thanks for being patient :)
