One of the things I've had trouble with with dual Kinect capture in v2 is that the ground collision plane can be too high and cause errors in the leg tracking when the actor was crouched or kneeling. I was wondering if this issue has been addressed in v3.

Just a thought but this could probably be solved if the the user was allowed to keyframe the vertical position of the ground collision object as necessary.

Thanks for listening and please keep up the great work! :)

So having 2 K2 is not as good as having 4 PS Eyes ?

What about 2 K1 vs 2 K2 ?

Based on my experience, having 2 Kinect for Windows produces comparable mocap quality to having 4 PS Eye cameras. The disadvantage is a smaller capture space. The advantage is easier setup, calibration and capture.

As stated above, 2 Kinect 2 for Windows should result in cleaner depth data than 2 original Kinect for Windows. This doesn't necessarily translate as higher mocap quality but it should mean fewer tracking errors because the tracker can distinguish finer details. In other words, my understanding is that the advantage mainly comes in less time spent cleaning up the mocap data during tracking.

(Bear in mind that I have only used multiple original Kinect for Windows so I have not actual comparison experience with Kinect 2 for Windows. I'm just offering my interpretation of the information provided.)

Unfortunately, Kinect SDK 2 still lacks support of multiple sensors. We plan to introduce distributed recording as update to V3 later, which will address this inability.

For now, I'm going to stay with my three Kinect (1) for Windows devices. I don't really have the funds to upgrade all three devices immediately, but even if I did, I'm not sure the benefits of K2's higher resolution is going to be worth the cost for me.

I definitely want to upgrade to iPi Mocap Studio 3 though. The clues iPi Soft has been dropping these past months has me very excited about this release. :)
