I installed the trial version. I had three psmoves and akinect ready. I was going to use poser to do some sexy dances with v4. I got three different bluetooth adapters, one generic one saying 4.0, another from Targus and it is longer, and specifically out of word of mouth from another ipi board the ASUS BT 2.1 (or 4.0,. because that's greater, no?)



I kept buying them because no matter which one starting from the first wouldnt pick up or synch with the ps moves. Im talking the one that look like microphones.

Honestly. I would click sync and then I would do whatever I could on the psmoves. I KNOW my drivers worked because the bluetooth button in the corner of windows gives me more control then EVER before. I feel confident in the bluetooth dongle. I go to plug the PSMove in through usb and NOTHING either. After pressing buttons. I use a USB that I bought cheaply from China that plugs in actually to a charger dock stupidly designed to hold two psmoves but only was correctly drilled to allow one.. in which you plug that into the base and the plugs are merely the same but an extender. And I am confident that usb cord is just merely a true extension cord. So I plug it in with that and nada. So I am confused. I am wondering, why does the search button in forums not work? MAJORR maldesign in forum work.. I mean that could be temporarily disruptive. I am running windows seven off a regular xbox360 kinect that works and is detected in ipi.

PS Move works with BT 2.1 EDR adapters, as noted in docs. Most of BT 3.0/4.0 adapters won't work with PS Move.

After many attempts I have got PS Move paired with ASUS USB-BT400 (which is BT 4.0) on Win7, but did not find a straightforward way to do this. On Win8+ one needs to use MiJ drivers anyway, which do not support BT 4.0 dongles.

What is a problem with the forum's Search button?

So I understand that ipi ionly works well with bt211 dongle. I have a bt411 i see that. With an older dongle that I own, the CS4.0, MOtion Injoy will pick up that dongle. This us UNLIKE my bt400. Even after I can get my bluetooth device to DO pair with that dongle, in ipi, when I ask to connect new psmove, I still cannot get past please connect your psmove to pc through usb. I dont know if that was my dongle or my usb cord. The usb cord I have is a cord that fits for the psmove but i dont know if carries more than just electricity, that means not sure if it includes data in the cable. It was part of a cheap charger dock for psmves.

My question is are my cables bad or is the dongle preventing me

At the time of writing that post, there was an immediate error with any combination of terms I was trying to search.

If Win 7, you don't need the MotioninJoy drivers installed at all and Win 7 will work with a some BT 400 dongles drivers usually and pair fine, although I would recommend an Asus BT211, only from experience with BT400 on Win 7 being less steadily reliable when Moves data applied.

Other model dongles of the 2.1 EDR variety may work and may not, it's a trial and error thing, but the Asus BT211 is best recommended.

(BT211 is a USB 2.0 device and should be plugged into a USB 2.0 port, not a USB 3.0 port, I don't think it is forward compatible, it may throw an error).

It is also better after you get the Moves paired, to use a longer USB 2.0 cable and plug the dongle into it to get it away from your computer due to electro-magnetic interference.

There is many descriptions of the process of installing the Moves and drivers in the forum for both Win 7 and Win 8+ (Win 10 is same process as Win 8+, in-case you upgrade).

For Win 8+, I don't believe you even need to install the dongles drivers off the CD, as MotioninJoy installs its own and will appear in your device manager as such, I don't think it matters if you do install them off the CD though either, (but it may remove them when you install MiJ one), and once MotioninJoy drivers are properly installed, it will appear in device manager under xbox 360 peripherals, or does on my Win 10 OS, I can't remember what it appeared under when I was on Win 7, (I think it had its own device listing in the device manager for Blue Tooth though), and I never ran Win 8, but it will appear somewhere in the device manager no matter, also check the BT settings window and make sure it has proper settings ON.

Once each Move is paired properly to the dongle, you won't have to repair them again unless you remove the dongle from the port and re-plug it in a different port, then possibly you will.

In iPi Recorder, you must have Moves turned on for Windows and the program to recognize them, or you will have to click the REFRESH button for them to appear if turned on after iPi Recorder starts.

I'm glad I saw this thread. I just realized I haven't tested my PS Moves since Win 7 and now all my computers are on Win 10.

Guess I better check it out this evening to make sure I still have what I need to make this work.

I posted a thread a while back when I upgraded to Win 10 also, where my BT400 stopped working I used on Win 7, I thought then you said you were on Win 8.1, if so it's the same, no need to change anything, but may need to re-pair them to your dongle through MotioninJoy program.

Should be already paired if Windows detects the devices when you start up iPi Recorder, but I am not sure there.

If 1 comp, or more was a Win 7 machine, you will have to install the MiJ program and drivers anyway for Win 10 and do the whole set up for each Move again.

Your mini comp should have been at least Win 8.1?

No, I've only ever been on Win 7 Pro for Mocap Studio. My Wacom tablet computer was Win 8.1 but I did not use this device for iPi software. (Until this weekend anyway and it's now running on Win 10.)

Looking into this now. I'm guessing my BT adapter is no longer compatible--Motioninjoy is erroring on driver installation. I think I have an older adapter around here somewhere but if I can't find it I'll order the ASUS.

Ugh...have a bad cold...I really should just get some rest instead.

Okay, I really am sick I guess. My bluetooth dongle IS an Asus BT211 so it should be compatible. :p

Thank goodness because this dongle is apparently hard to find at a decent price anymore. On Amazon, it's going for over a $150!

I'm going to try again but probably tomorrow.

Yeah, I just went with the ASUS BT211 from statements made in the forum, kinda hard to find now, I found a few on eBay when I needed them and bought several at the time at varied prices but under $20 shipped, 1- I won the bid at $5 free ship, because no one else bid on it :) 1-was $11 and 1-was $19 If I remember.

I used the extension technique you stated before also, and now I have no issues with the Moves positioning data when applied in iPi Studio.

Just remember it's a USB 2.0 device, so needs a USB 2.0 port.
