I downloaded some Azure sample projects (sing and dual). and I must admit, I am impressed. Compared to the results I get from testing single Kinect v2, this is waaaay better. I do use 6 PS3 cams and they work well, but the Azure tracking is just as nice as my PS3 cam ones! and it's blazingly fast! at least twice as fast as ps3 tracking.

It seems there aren't that many azure ipi users yet.. it's pretty quiet about azure in the forums.. 400 dollars a pop, is not cheap... compared to 5-10 bucks for PS3. If Azure price comes down (maybe 200-250), I'll consider buying 3 of them to do some really good tracking fast.

Hope to see some samples of azure mocap from the users!

cheers.

KC

Yes, I'm very impressed by the in-house Azure Kinect demo videos too.

Sigh! I had an opportunity to try two Azure Kinects recently but had to pass on the offer because I didn't really have time to test them. A very sad decision for me. :(

I hope to get my own set of Azure Kinect sensors eventually...when I have more time to actually use them of course. :)

Hello everyone,
Now I have three Azure kinects now. The capture result of them are very very impressive.
The tracking speed is much faster than using the PS eyes.
The feet tracking are much more accurate than even using 12 PS eyes. It's very convenient to use them because they don't need any driver installed.

Wow, thanks for your post!

It's so good to hear from a real Azure user. 12 psys? haha.. cool. I only have 6 ps3, but yes the foot could use more accuracy as it sometimes seems like floating.. which I try to fix in maya with HIK/floor contact by bringing the torso down.

So 3 Azures are more accurate than ps3 captures, huh. that is soooo good to hear. I love ps3 and ipi, but the tracking can take some amount of time. especially for longer takes. but from the tests I've done using the ipi's sample files, I can even enable fast tracking and it works perfectly. which makes tracking very fast...

Could you post some sample retargeted mocaps (for a character) of your Azure captures? I'm considering getting 3 Azures and test them myself.

thanks again!

P.S. do you have a website or youtube channel with your works? 12psy... wow sounds like you are using it for some serious work. would love to see them!

Is it possible to use let’s say 8 Azures in one of? To capture two people or so really complex acrobatic movements?

Three azures were tested by a user here, but how about four? Six? Eight? For bigger capture area and accuracy, is this technically doable?

I don't know what the limit it but, yeah, 8 Azure Kinect sensors sounds like overkill to me since these devices record 3D depth.

Three Azure Kinect should effectively give you complete coverage. Capturing with additional Azure Kinect is probably just redundant data, and probably likely to only increase processing time. I also wonder if using too many sensors will create IR confusion and degrade the quailty. (Just an assumption...I don't know this for fact.)

Anyway, interesting topic. Since I don't have Azure Kinect, I would love to hear more about this from Azure Kinect users and iPi Soft.
