Hi :)

I need to buy the cameras, because now I have none.

What camera would be the best and where I connect? How many will I need? my computer has these parameters i7 920, Nvidia 295 gtx, 6 gb ram, be enough? the problem is I have no space in my room... How do you do? on outdoors? in my room just several meters long...

And the program works to export animation to Poser (example models M4/V4)? Someone who has been able to do the test? I'm really interested because I work with this program and motion capture. if I can make the motion capture for myself, definitely I would buy the program

many questions, I know xD
Thanks for all :)

If you have no space, Kinect may be the best option. It depends on what you need to capture. The PS3 Eye system is more capable but it requires a fairly large space, more prep work, and a lot more horsepower to use effectively.

FWIW, I use both systems: Kinect at home for quick simpler motions; PS3 Eye 'off-site' for bigger, more complicated motions. Overall, I do like how easy the Kinect is to use and it seems to handle a lot of motions within reason.

Kinect is this sensor?

Image

I see in a shop for 200$. With this sensor cam i can use the program without other cameras? Really catch the movement of arms and legs? Or if I turn around completely 180 degrees? Or try crouch on the floor? I want to be sure that the capture can be applied to characters in M4 and V4 Poser. It a lot of money to risk!

Thanks :)

You might want to shop around; I think I bought mine for about $140 from Amazon, including the needed power supply.

As mentioned above, Kinect capture is fairly limited compared to PS3 Eye. In other words no, you can't completely capture 180 degree turns. You can probably cheat this by correcting transitions manually or by blending two motions (via Motion Builder or another non-linear motion editor in a 3D application,) but in general the answer is no. However, in an upcoming release, iPi Recorder and DMC are supposed to support two Kinects, which should allow for 180 degree turns. Of course, this doubles the cost now, and it will probably require more computer power.

As for movement of legs, crouching on floor, you should be able to do that with a single Kinect so long as you perform 'to camera' and stay within the capture space.

As for using Poser with iPi DMC, I haven't done that myself but I think others have had success with this. I would search the forums for specific examples. Also, there is info about using iPi DMC with Poser in the wiki.

IMO, if you feel purchasing a Kinect is a risk, you should find a friend that owns one and see if you can borrow it for a session or two. You can run iPi DMC for free for 30 days and see if this system will work for you before making an investment.

Hope this helps.
