My understanding is that higher resolution helps with a RGB video based system like the PS3 Eye Camera because is it allows you to capture at greater distances. However the extra resolution doesn't mean much for Kinect capture (as implemented in Mocap Studio) because the distance is limited by the range of the depth sensor, not RGB data. Kinect 2 for Windows may allow a future release of Mocap Studio to generate a higher res point cloud, which is great for capturing details for meshes but that doesn't necessarily translate as significantly improved accuracy for motion tracking. Remember Mocap Studio achieves its exceptional accuracy with standard desktop computers
because it is not a real time system.
Of course this doesn't mean Mocap Studio won't benefit from the advanced features of the Kinect 2--I imagine the depth data is much cleaner than what we get using the original Kinect for Windows. And the engineers at iPi Soft are very clever--who knows what other tricks they have up their sleeves? :)
