VLC absolutely cannot be the cause of the problem, because VLC is completely separate from DirectShow infrastructure. VLC has its own integrated codecs (non-DirectShow) and its own player.

Michael - I installed GSpot 2.70a and copied the file that crashed to the interface.

Gspot seems to think there is no problem, which makes sense as both VLC and Windows Media Player can both play it.

What does it show at the bottom of the screen, in "Proposed Codec Solutions and Tests" section (you have to click "1" button to display the info on codecs)?

We need this info for debugging.
We will be able to respond in about 36 hours from now as we need to go to airport now to fly across the ocean.

It looks like the Matrox codecs are the problem. I un-installed, and now I can play in iPi Studio.

However, as VLC and Microsoft seem to be able to play the video with the Matrox codecs installed, and Matrox is a rather large popular company for folks in the graphic world, it might be good to have iPi Studio find a way to choose the codecs it uses (as VLC and MS seem to be able to).
