Hi everyone. It's a pleasure to meet you all. I design video games for a hobby as part of a team called "FromSoySauce". We post all the progress on our projects, as well as a set of tutorial videos teaching people how to design video games here:
https://www.youtube.com/user/FromSoySauce/videos

Our most recent game is based on a smash-bros-esq fighting engine. The idea for it is basically Smash bros but with a mix of our own characters and a big handful of the other most popular indie game characters that we get permission to use. As you might guess animation is the longest part of the work and I heard motion capture could really speed that up! I just had a few quick questions.

Why do most of the demo videos I see not have hand movement?
And is it possible to get the animations I record onto autodesk maya and tweak them? Or add new bones to the skeleton?

Thank you so much for your time everyone!

Hi and welcome,

Game development is something I'm interested in for a future project so I'll definitely check out you're YT channel. Thanks for posting the link.

Regarding hand animations, iPi Mocap Studio doesn't capture fingers data--it uses PS Move controllers to capture wrist rotations, so even if it could capture fingers, it wouldn't be very useful because the hands are holding the controllers.

That said, it's very easy to add hand animations within Mocap Studio. To do this, you can use the predefined hand poses or create your own, and then on the timeline you can have the software interpolate between various hand poses. Most of the time, this feature is pretty convincing for how little effort it actually takes.

We do most of our hand animations this way, and we reserve only the more complicated hand performances for key framing in our final animation program.

BTW, if you do a search in these forums, you can find hand poses libraries created by other users.

G.
