Hi!

I tried to install Ipi recorder but when I plug in my Kinnect in, ipirecorder doesn't see my kinect. :(

I know this issue was addressed in an earlier post but the answer was just to reinstall the drivers and it didn't work for me.

When I look in the Device Manager, it lists PrimeSensor, and under it, only "XboxNUIMotor". Shouldn't there be more stuff there, like "XBox NUI Camera", like it lists in the docs?

I'm using 64 bit windows 7.

Any tips that I could try??

Thanks!
Eric

Please, try to download and install the latest version of iPiRecorder. Alter installation of it you can try to install Microsoft Kinect for Windows SDK from here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/kinectforwindows/develop/. It can help.

Thanks! However It's still not working.
I am using Windows 7, the latest version (1.7.0.80) of iPi recorder and I just downloaded the Microsoft Windows for Kinect SDK

I think the PC sees the Kinect because in the Device Manager it lists Microsoft Kinect, and under it Microsoft Kinect Device (When the Kinect is plugged in to the USB port)
.
However when I launch Ipi Recorder, The camera selector only shows my webcam.

Any clues to what is wrong?

Thanks!

Eric

Sure! Here is a screen capture of my device manager when I plug in the Kinect to the USB port. And thank you so much for the prompt responses!

Hello!

4 devices should be presented in Device Manager for one MS Kinect Sensor:
1. Microsoft Kinect Audio Array Controll
2. Microsoft Kinect Camera
3. Microsoft Kinect Device
4. Microsoft Kinect Security Controll

But you have only one (#3). It's not good.

Possible reasons:
  • you didn't plug your Kinect Sencor to AC/DC adapter (external power supply is not optional!)
  • you plugged your Kinect Sensor to PC through USB 1.x port rather than 2.0

It was the power cord - the external power outlet wasn't plugged in.
It works fine now!!
Yes I am a moron when it comes to hardware....

But the USB tip is certainly good to know as well.

Thank you so much for your help! I will hopefully post some cool animation soon!
