Yes - very disappointing that head tracking has been moved to Q3. By the way, any comments on this blog with respect to the proposed features/timelines in iPisoft?

FWIW, I don't see how this news can be disappointing at all. The posted schedule is actually the first time iPi Soft has EVER publicly listed a release schedule for new features. In the past, any news of head tracking development has been vague and now we know it's actually coming.

We are truly excited that the head tracking feature is coming to iPisoft, it is just that we are getting a little impatient and would like that feature to be published asap !

Any hints as to whether tracking speed (processing) will be made faster?

No mention of speed improvements in the PR but, yeah, that would be very welcome news.

However, I have to say that even with a two-year old graphics card like my GTX 460 (which sells for like $140 now,) I'm getting 0.67 sec per frame. IMO, that's really not bad and I'm satisfied with this performance. And if you can get a more modern GTX cards tracking should be significantly bit faster.

To put things in perspective, three years ago it took me over 10.0 seconds(!) per frame to track motions in iPi Studio. This software has definitely come a long way since then. :)

I brought a GTX430 with 2GB memory and it has sped up processing, about 2 secs perframe with dual kinect input. However I think my PSU is under spec because now it makes an awful high pitched screeching noise when monitor is on, so my workflow is now to work quickly with monitor on, then switch it off for processing. Not ideal and I will figure out PSU upgrades but will do for now.

Running the trial on a new laptop I have is about 10 secs perframe for processing, so not workable so much.

Yeah, that's the 'downside' with the recent GTX cards--most of them require beefy power supplies.

I had a similar situation: my computer has a mid-sized case and a modest power supply so I had to seek out a smaller form GTX 460 with lower power consumption. I found one made by MSI and had to pay a little extra for these specs but it runs perfectly in my system.

Regarding your monitor, can you change the refresh rate? In some cases, this can make the whining go away.

Head Tracking will be part of 2.0, just not for the initial release later this month. If you look at the schedule on the main website you will see that Head Tracking is scheduled for fall of 2012 (Q3).
