Hello!
Have you received e-mail from us two days ago? We have answered to you on Saturday.

Oh man I don't know how I missed that. Thanks!
It works now. iPiSOft is flying on this computer.

Now the only problem is calibrating 2 kinects. I get great results using 1.
But so far have gotten no where with 2. I'm standing in the green area
when I hold up the rectangle board. I am moving slowly and all I'm getting
are yellow dots here and there. At the end I have 0 good frames and
"NaN" for both average angle error and position error. Not sure what that means.
I've been searching the forum for tips on making it work but the work
"calibration" is too common of a word in these parts.

The board is black with white tape on the corners and center. Maybe that has something to do with it? I have kinects setup at 90 degree angle.

Is it normal to look this blotchy?
I can't seem to get any good results with it.
It looked a lot sharper and accurate on the computer that used the GeForce 8400 card.
If I'm going to use this software I need to make it work on this computer (the one that uses
the GeForce GTX 560 Ti. Can you give me any pointers?

If it helps at all, I am trying to get this working in our studio for something awesome.
I am one of the animators for Red Vs Blue at Rooster Teeth and we're working on
season 10. We just finished an insane crunch-time to get the first scene done in time
for PAX East. They gave the team time off and so I've been using it to run experiments
and work on my own animation projects.
Everyone is back now and we're about to get started on animation again.
I'm trying hard to get iPiSoft into the workflow for doing falls and ground mocap. It's
near impossible to get good result when relying on sensors. I showed Burnie Burns and
the crew what I was experimenting with using iPiSoft and they're pretty excited about it.
So that's what I'm pushing for. It would be pretty cool for you guys too if you were able
to say "used on RvB Season 10". hehe. At least if you're into that stuff.

So anyway, I've got to call it a day. I wish I would have been able to get the dual Kinects to work
over the weekend. I need at least dual since I am doing a lot of spins, flips and falls. 1 kinect doesn't
work so well for that. Maybe I'll get another chance to try again next weekend. If you know anything
about what I might be able to do to improve capture results I would really appreciate the help.
I must be doing something wrong. I watched the videos on this site: http://nycppnews.com/reviews/joe-herman-reviews-ipi-softs-markerless-motion-capture-system/
That guys had no problems getting it to work.

The yellow color means the surface wasn't readable by the Kinect. FYI, Kinect has difficulty with highly reflective and matte black surfaces because the IR signal cannot bounce back to the device reliably from these surfaces. I suspect those large yellow areas are windows or otherwise shiny surfaces? If so, you need to change your environment, i.e., cover the reflective surfaces, move the Kinects, or move to an different room.

Your graphics card shouldn't have any affect on recording quality. In fact, you should able to record with almost any old graphics card. Where the GPU comes in to play is calibration of the scene and tracking, and for this purpose your GTX 560 card is insanely faster than the Geforce 8400--it's not even a contest.

It should be pretty straightforward once you get good recorded data. Try changing what's in the room. You can view the data quality in realtime while making the adjustments. If it's difficult to do this in that room, try another location. FWIW, it may be possible to work even with the 'bad' data above so long as the performer is readable, though I would make a serious effort to improve this first.

FWIW, I can confirm that the system works remarkably well considering the comparatively low costs. Last fall my wife and I successfully used the iPi DMC to complete a short film and now are working on two longer format projects.

Hope this helps. Good luck with your project and let us know how it goes!

G.

Oh, I just remembered: extremely bright light from outdoors can affect the Kinect's ability to record good data indoors. When we record in our living room during the day, we need to close our blinds to get good data. It's fine in the evening though.
