No. iPi DMC only uses depth data from Kinect or it can reconstruct 3D volumes from video shot from multiple vantage points, like when recording syncronized video from four or more PS3 Eye cameras.

I suppose it might be possibly to generate a depth map from a true stereo image (not the fake post produced 3D you see in many so-called '3D' movies released in theaters,) but this method doesn't sound very practical because there are many easier and cheaper ways to do this. (Kinect for example.)

Were you thinking of using pre-existing stereo movies as a source for mocap tracking? This will not work at all. Even if it were possible for the software to create volume from the stereo image, the performances in the footage will have had to been shot and framed for the purpose of mocap tracking in mind, and not shot and edited as a traditional cinematic movie. Plus, you need your clean video for calibration.

IMO, you should simply download the software and try it out yourself. This will give you a much better idea of what the software actually does and how you can use it.

thanks so much for the facts. ipi-soft support team are realy doing great work. Thanks, once again. Actually i was not only thinking of using pre existed video from a stereo shoot to extract a mocap data, it's only that some stereo movies i knw contain some interesting and impossible actions like stunts, acrobatic jumps, kung-fu fight and all those professional moves which you may not possibly do on your own, even free mocap datas online do not have them.

IMO, your best option is to roto-capture (manually matchmove) such footage. Many visual fx artists use this do this method on productions where mocap isn't an option but they have a lot of good reference footage. You can roto-capture any existing footage (dancing, sports, martial arts, people getting blown up, whatever,) and it doesn't need to be stereo.

To do this, convert your footage to fast loading jpegs and map it to the background in your 3D application, then simply 'rotoscope' your rig over the motion. Obviously, this is not an automated process but with practice it can be done quickly and the results can be very realistic.

please after geting two different mocap data from ipisoft to be integrated into two different model in the same scene, how do i make the models to use the mocap data to interact with each other. I already knw how to integrate mocap data into a model to perfom the same action, but no idea how to make them interact instead i see it just standing seperate while the action flows but no interaction? E.g i want interactions like hit, hug, hold hands or even shake one another? Any idea? How can mocap data do that and what techniques are used for accomplishing such thing?

iPi DMC is only used for capturing motion and outputting the data. You can also retarget the data to a rigged character in iPi Studio but that's pretty much it. What you do next with this data is up to you and another 3D program.

It sounds like what you want is a way to trigger specific behaviors through events, which is one of the things you can do with the exported iPi DMC motion but this isn't actually done in iPi DMC itself. You will need to do this in a 3D game engine like Unity or in an animation program like Endorphin.
