Hi,

Optionally, I'd like to be able to import a frame sequence to iPi Studio. The reason for this is that I'm finding that I often have to clean up and manipulate my video footage to get the best performance out of iPi Studio, and working with individual frames is more flexible and efficient, especially if I only need to update a short range or just a few frames.

.png would be an ideal format for this purpose, as it is compact and lossless, and most video editin, compositing, and graphics programs these days support it.

Thanks for suggestion. That's possible to implement but first I need to get better understanding of how this should work. Could you please provide examples of such video clean-up? (You can just name the video filters you use - providing the pictures is always helpful but not really critical). Maybe it would be more user-friendly to add such clean-up filters directly into iPi Studio?

The clean up involves masking and compositing. For a recent session, I had to mask out areas where unwanted motion that was interfering with the calibration process. After creating the masks, I comped a clean plate over these areas. The clean up was mainly for reflections of the Maglite in an indoor office window, reflections in the floor when the Maglite came close to it, and a screen saver on a distant computer screen. Some of these issues will be avoided then next time I shoot at this location, but correcting this session was not difficult to do in a compositing package (I use Fusion, but AE would be fine too.) However, it's efficient to output a few edited frames, than outputting an entire movie file each time I go back to make a minor edit.

Plus, since I am typically using .png, recompression is not an issue. Next to .png, .tga is probably the next most widely useful--it's not as flexible as .png, but it's more commonly supported for video. (Actually, I use .exr more often for compositing and processing since it's capable of floating point data, but that's not appropriate in this situation.)

I'm feeling too sick to work today, but I will try to send you some examples later this weekend.

Thanks for the explanation. That kind of editing certainly makes sense. We are looking into how this can be implemented.
