I bought this laptop specifically to record with 2 devices.
Its specification says that this model has a usb 2.0 and usb 3.0
Consequently, there are 2 usb controller and it should work.

After installing the drivers, both devices are correctly identified.

But.
The program can be seen at the same time only one device (the device sometimes incorrectly defined - XTION PRO LIVE instead XTION PRO, but it always works correctly).
Image
Both sensors are intact and can be used simultaneously - check it out on my main computer.

How can I solve this problem?

once it happened that the recorder has identified two devices Xtion, but one of them shows the depth at 3 or 4 frames per second, while the other shows the blackness.

It seems like compatibility issue between Xtion device and one of USB controllers in your laptop (most probably, USB 3.0 one).
Please make a screenshot of the USB Controllers section in the Device Manager.
Also please provide a trace file from iPi Recorder:
  • Connect both Xtions to the laptop
  • Run iPi Recorder
  • Refresh the list of devices couple of times
  • Click menu tools > show trace
  • Press SAVE To FILE button
  • Attach file to this topic

periodically update the list of devices can sometimes cause the following results:
  • program hangs
  • in the device list does not appear anything other than a web camera
  • device is defined as the ASUS Xtion Pro Live instead ASUS Xtion Pro

Thank you for provided info.

So, you have an Intel USB 3.0 controller integrated in HM70 chipset. Intel has just recently started to produce its own USB 3.0 controllers, and we had no opportunity to test cameras compatibility with them. It's likely there are some issues.
To be sure, check how a single Xtion behaves in iPi Recorder when connected to USB 3.0 port. Does it work properly?

USB controller compatibility is a big problem with modern laptops. Usually they have a small number of USB ports, and all USB 2.0 ports are connected to a single controller though chipset provides two of them. And if you encounter compatibility issues with USB 3.0 controller - then you're stuck. Unless the laptop has an ExpressCard slot which allows to install an external USB controller, which may have no compatibility issues.
Unfortunately, your laptop does not have an ExpressCard slot, as I can see from the specs :(

What can you offer? Buy another laptop? With other chipsets, with a different controller, the other specs?
When I chose this laptop, I just followed the advice of the wiki "If you plan getting additional high-speed USB controller, we strongly recommend that you get a USB 3.0 controller, just to be on the safe side." I used the service http://tinyurl.com/ajl8thb
And choose the most affordable laptop with usb 3.0 controller.
Well, it turned out, it was not enough just to have a usb 3.0 controller.
What do I do now?

By 'additional high speed controller', I think they meant as a separate controller card for your computer, which is what I did for my desktop (two USB 3.0 controller card in addition to the two on-board USB 2.0 controllers.)

Is there a way to add a USB controller to the laptop via Expresscard? That's how I added a USB 3.0 drive to my old laptop back when I was experimenting with iPi on that computer.

If I understand right, the situation is:
  • When connecting any of Xtions to any of 2 USB ports alone - it does work (Try all 4 possible combination combinations of USB port and camera before giving a positive answer)
  • When connecting both Xtions simultaneously - one or both of them does not work
Is that correct?
Please make a screenshot of Device Manager when both sensors are connected in Devices By Connection view (menu View), both sensors should be visible. To ensure that they are in fact mapped to different USB controllers.
You can also try this firmware upgrade for Xtion, fixing some USB 3.0 issues:
http://reconstructme.net/2012/10/13/asus-xtion-usb-3-0-hotfix/
After this upgrade, I could connect my Xtion Live via onboard NEC USB 3.0 controller, what I was not able to do before. Though, only colorless modes are working without frame rate issues with this controller :(

First, Greenlaw is right. This advice is about additional USB controllers extending the PC, not about buying a laptop.
Second, we cannot guarantee hardware compatibility for any specific laptop or USB controller with specific camera unless we test this combination ourselves. We just try to give you proper recommendations to decrease the probability of getting the wrong stuff. But the final responsibility for your choice is up to you. If you were not sure, you should try to get an advice on this forum before buying the laptop.
Thanks to this discussion I've made some additions to wiki pages regarding USB compatibility. One new recommendation is to have an ExpressCard slot in a laptop to have an opportunity of adding compatible USB controller.

Screenshot that I posted above - this is the case, both sensors are connected and displayed in Device Manager, but only one sensor can be seen in the recorder.

No, it does not work, nothing has changed.

I used the "local" recommendations - for each sensor requires a separate usb controller, and due to compatibility issues, you should use no more than one usb 2.0 controller.

My old laptop was equipped with two usb 2.0 controller, and a second sensor is simply not detected by the operating system! Image
(On a x55a both sensors are determined by the operating system at the same time Image, however, the recorder detects only one. Looks like a software problem, right?)

On the old computer had the same situation.
However, after buying a new motherboard, I just connected the first sensor to the port usb 2.0, second sensor is connected to port usb 3.0 and it worked.

Should not that have worked in the case of the laptop?
I reasoned like this: two sensors, two usb controller, one usb 2.0, another - usb 3.0. It had to work. And it is not working. And I very much doubt that anyone could warn me of a similar situation.

And I damn happy to help you find such an important thing for my money and time. After all, it will greatly help to make the product more user-friendly to the consumer, right?

Tomorrow I will try to exchange the laptop for another model (although by law the seller may refuse me, because the laptop is fully functional)
I will take any model with a slot for express card.
Perhaps you will have some recommendations for choosing the model?
