Cosmetically and functionally there's not a lot of difference between Kinect for XBox and Kinect for Windows. However, one useful feature in Kinect for Windows is the additional video controls that you can use to tweak the RGB previews in iPi Recorder--the Autogain option alone helps make a dimly lit room at night very visible. This feature won't improve mocap quality in the current version but it can make it easier to see hand orientation, which you will need for proper alignment of PS Move and Wii Motion Plus motion data. Also, keep in mind that future versions of iPi Mocap Studio is expected to use RGB data to enhance head tracking, among other things.

Kinect for Windows may be worth considering if you intend to use the devices for production uses. For example, one of the features not available to Kinect for XBox is 'Near Mode', which is useful with some face capture programs. To be clear, 'Near Mode' is not used by iPi though, at least not in the currect release. Kinect for Windows is also compatible with the 3D scanning program ReconstructMe while Kinect for XBox is not.

Finally, only Kinect for Windows is officially supported by Microsoft. This may be important for warranty matters and future driver support.

All that said, Kinect for Windows does cost twice as much as Kinect for XBox, so you need to consider if these extra features are worth the extra $100 you will spend for each device.

Hope this helps.
