Hi Greenlaw,

That's correct: in order to maximize the surface of the usable "sweet spot", I tried placing the cameras as far away as my room can allow. Currently, 5 cameras are place in a quarter-circle , and the 6th camera is placed at the back. All the cameras are 2.80 meters high.

Before changing this setup, which will reduce my mocap surface, I wanted to make sure it is really a problem. According to your message, it might... Hum...

I would give it a try and see what happens.

In my own experience--and it's been a while since I last used PS Eye cameras--I got better calibration and tracking results when the camera height placement was more staggered, some very low (1m) and some higher (eye level to 3m). But definitely give your set up a try first. If you have problems capturing certain types of motions, try staggering the heights.

Again, in my experience, no single setup is perfect for every situation. For example, if the character is crawling flat on the ground like G.I. Joe, then a high angle setup for most of the cameras would certainly be more accurate than if most cameras were set at low angles.

Just something to think about. Let us know how it goes.

G.

Hi again,

I made some changes to my setup, and I'm really happy with the results now:

http://youtu.be/b0PRzdA-Q1M

The hands are tracked most of the time without an error, and there is very little jitter. Post-processing does not change much.

I changed the positions of my cameras - as Greenlaw suggested - a little bit: two of them are much lower now, and cover much better the two sides of the scene. I still have 3 cameras at 2 meters 80. I might lower two of them a little bit, I'll see that.

I also made a few tests with clothes, and the best I found is what i wear on the video. I think the gloves are very important. They are in a dark red color. I also bought a few polystyrene plates in order cover most of the clutter in my room. I'm pretty sure it helped: I'll build something more practical soon.

One more thing: I use most the time the head tracking feature now. Processing takes longer, but it's much more realistic, except maybe for robots, monkeys or astronauts!
