wicq, thanks for the detailed answer. So it is definetly something I'm doing wrong. On Monday, I'll try to set most of the cameras at the same height.
I couldn't watch the video, though. Youtube says it is private.

I strongly recommend you to put all the cameras at the same height

It may be good for an easy start. But in general, for the good overview of an actor it's better to have variance in camera heights. Low cameras may help for leg/feet tracking, high cameras - for tracking near horizontal poses like push-ups. Certainly, the most suitable cameras placement depends on the kind of motions you gonna capture.

In the actor video I've posted above, you can check my studio set up. Is it too small, perhaps?

The area is a bit small but adequate for the motions you capture. The actor is fully visible in all the cameras, that's enough.
I can note that it would be helpful for tracking if the actor clothes were in more contrast with environment. In the video, his pullover's color is close to the walls, and his pants' color is close to the carpet.

But first we must deal with calibration. It's a pity we cannot do that in a stable environment. When you do the calibration next time, please measure all camera heights, and try to record with lights on. Dim the lights if you can, and select "Darkening" value for "darkening for calibration" option at the setup stage. Provide to us the recorded iPiVideo file and camera heights.

Why sometimes the message "Asynchronous read from pipe has failed" appears on the screen?

This means the camera stops sending its data properly for some reason. Maybe there is insufficient USB bandwidth. Try reducing frame rate to 50fps, or remove other data-rich USB devices like WiFi dongle.

Great, thanks!
What about the messages "Control tranfer failed" and "Failed to retrieve device descriptor"? (Btw, I'm getting those error, when using a passive cable connected to an active. Could this be the reason?)

Yes, another reason for such errors is a weak/interruptable signal from camera to a PC. This may be caused by using lengthy passive or low quality extension cables.

New tests, unfortunety the same problems.

Here is the link. https://www.dropbox.com/s/pht3y1vnrpmj8 ... 017-04.rar

Camera Heights:
camera 1- 2,13m
camera 2- 1,67m
camera 3- 1,62m
camera 4- 1,68m
camera 5- 1,62m
camera 6- 1,67m

I'm really running out of options/time here... The only thing that I might have done wrong this time is the camera order. In Ipi recorder, does it have to follow a numeric clockwise orientation?

In case I use the dual kinect set up, which framerate I'll be working with?

I'm not sure if this is still the case since I haven't used PS3 Eye with iPi Mocap Studio 2.0 yet, but in the past it with version 1.0, it was recommended that the cameras be set in sequence--though I don't think it mattered if it was clockwise or counter clockwise.

Have you tried the four camera setup yet? It's a bit easier to deal because auto-detect works reliably with four and there's fewer things you need to keep track of. If you can get the four camera configuration working, it may give you enough experience to figure out what's going wrong with your six camera setup.

As for Kinect, it works in 30 fps only. This is where you lose some accuracy but for what I'm doing, this has been fast enough--iPi Mocap Studio's interpolation is actually pretty good at correcting what it misses due to lower framerate.

Hope you can get your system working soon. Good luck!

G.

I just tested your video and got really strange results. The problem is not with camera order in iPiRecorder, but with camera placement.

Can you please explain how you positioned the cameras? For example, do you have any cameras looking in parallel directions? Can you draw a simple picture explaining the camera placement in the above calibration video?

Could it be that picture in some cameras is mirrored somehow? Can you confirm that you had all cameras set to wide angle field of view (blue dot)?
