Hello!

I just can’t get the hand tracking to work with my PS Move on Windows 8. I understand that this is not a MotioninJoy support, so I will not ask you to try to solve my problem. I will just give up on PS Move as it is right now.

What I am wondering is however if Wii Remotes are good enough in your opinion? I tested a Wii Remote and it connected perfectly, however I don’t have Motion Plus so I would have to buy that.

You talk about drifting issues. Has anyone any ideas how big of a problem this is? Are we talking a few degrees after an hour of recording or is more like a degree per second?
And if the controls are drifting, is there a way to compensate for that in Studio? I would really like to be able to record in 10 minute sessions, with remotes for both my hands and my head and with smooth result. Could Wii Remotes and Motion Plus give that to me?

The drifting rate varies greatly depending on the kind of motions you are doing. It may be a few degrees per minute for considerably smooth motions, and 180 degrees per minute for very quick motions. Anyway, Wii Motion Plus barely can be used for prolonged recordings.
To overcome the drifting problem, you can process motions from controllers separately for smaller parts of the video. In each part, you should match controller with the scene and apply the motion data. However, to be able to do matching in each individual part, there should be a frame in this part with a controller aiming at some camera. Thus, the actor should aim periodically during the shooting, and this may be not convenient, especially when several controllers are involved.

BTW, what problems do you encounter with MIJ drivers? Maybe, we can give you some guidance to resolve them?

Okay, that sounds worse than I thought then :/ I suppose people use PS Move for a reason.

That would be very nice of you :) I have followed the instructions from the wiki and the forums several times, trying to reinstall and redo but I can't get it to work.

When just trying to connect the PS Move to a standard MJ installation I get error 0X-1ffffdd8. Just like said in this thread (viewtopic.php?t=6696&p=13315) I tried adding the ID to the inf file. Adding them just to the Windows part or to all OS:s. But no matter what, the error is replaced with a 0X-1ffffdb5 error ("ERROR: Install MotionInJoy driver installation failed") instead and I can't get any further. I tried using an external bluetooth-dongle instead of the built in but that didn't work either.

I have googled for error 0X-1ffffdb5 but I can't find any helpful info about it.

Maybe your only option is to get another BT dongle that is prooved to be working with Motion in Joy. Some are listed in their wiki (along with non-working):

I personally use ASUS USB-BT211 - no problems with MiJ.

Yes, you are right, that is probably the best and easiest solution :) I just really wanted the built-in to work since I have so few usb-ports, but I guess I will just have to get a hub as well x)
I will order an ASUS USB-BT211 and hope that I can get it to work :)

Please be aware of the minor issue with ASUS dongle. You cannot plug it in once and forget - for some reason, it stops working on each OS reboot. To make it working again - simply replug. Just a little inconvenience, but good to know. I have two of them, and both suffer this issue, so it is probably a defect of the model.

Once you get it working, here's another tip. If your computer is a good distance from the performance, attach the bluetooth adapter to a repeater cable to run it closer to the capture space.

Since I started doing this, the accuracy of my data has improved for quick motions. I'm using PS Move but this should apply for the Wii Motion controller as well.

You'll probably want to keep the adapter just outside of the capture space though--it would be a shame if your actor stepped on it. :)

As long as I only have to unplug and replug the adapter (and not do the whole installation process every time), I am completely fine with that, but thanks for the heads up :)
Also, when I checked the compability list for adapters, I saw that there were six of them confirmed to not work. And the one I have was of course one of them... So yeah, I feel stupid x)

Thanks for the tip, Greenlaw! :) I was planning to have it in the room next door where I have my computer but I suppose I will get another extension cable then.

That's my situation exactly--the computer we use for capture is in another room from the space where we do our performances. Moving the bluetooth adapter closer to the performance space really helps.
