Hey everybody, Hope all is well!

I'm will be relocating to London for a 6 months to a year project. I plan on bringing my Kinects with me but, I will have to get a laptop. I was wondering if any of you recommend any that is capable of running with a dual Kinect setup.

I'm thinking of getting this;

Slow hard drive (5400 RPM)
I assume the x4 USB 3.0 connections is two different buses, but who knows with laptops
Would check to see if it has an open HD slot to add a SSD drive, if so (other than crappy WIN 8, doesn't look too bad).

Replacing the HD is the First thing I'm going to do and it does have an extra HD slot where I will place a high performing Drive (to use for IPI and etc). As for the USB ports, I'm sure they are on separate buses (will be shocked if they are not) But, I will find out before buying. Out of the box, Windows 8 isn't great but, once I installed Classic Shell (http://sourceforge.net/projects/classicshell/), I have been very happy ever since.

It seems quite common for laptops to use one USB host controller for the ports connected to the laptop and to reserve the other USB host controller for interfacing to a docking station. At least that's what happens with two of my laptops.

If I want to use 2 x Kinects, I have to attach the laptop to the docking station in order to utilise both USB controllers, not a big issue but something to bear in mind, you may want to check and buy the docking station if so.

For convenience, I then use the eSATA port to capture to, since that means it's very simple to then plug that drive into the desktop PC for processing.

Just to add to the above, if you use USB, try to get a laptop that supports USB 3.0. You'll appreciate the extra bandwidth for the Kinect devices and drive.

If you can get an SSD for the capture drive, even better--check the specs of the drive though to be sure you're actually getting a faster performing drive. Not all SSD's are built for faster performance. Also, if you use SSD, bear in mind that they degrade over frequent usage, so you'll want to off-load your data to hard drive shortly after capture. I'm not currently shooting mobile, but I do record our motions to an SSD and then move the data to a regular hard drive before tracking it.
