Hi
As reported in the log, you have connected more than 2 cameras to a single USB controller.
Either try different USB port combinations until you find the working one, or reduce the frame rate to 30-40Hz.
Did you previously record with 4 PS Eyes on this laptop?

Hi
Yes i have successfully used this laptop many times for capture, despite the warning about the cameras all being on one controller

there are 4 usb plugs on the case two either side but i've never understood what the device manager info means

see attached

I tried to connect one camera but this also just gave me the black screen and frozen recorded image i get with the four connected

Steve

One camera does not work - this clearly indicates some problem with data transfer. In the log, I see that only 1 invalid frame goes from the camera and nothing more.
Please, try reinstalling the PS Eye driver. Uninstall it (search "iPi" in Programs and Components), and download and run the standalone installer:
http://files.ipisoft.com/drivers/PlayStation3_Eye_iPi-x64.msi

Regarding connections. It looks like you have 2 USB 2.0 controllers and 1 USB 3.0 controller. However, the Device Manager cannot show the number of USB ports and how they are connected to USB controllers. If the laptop has both USB 2.0 (usually black/white ones) and 3.0 (usually blue ones) ports, then at least 2 controllers are available. Use USB 2.0 port(s) to connect 2 cameras, and USB 3.0 port(s) to connect another 2 cameras. If the laptop has only one port for 2.0 or 3.0, then use USB hub to extend the number of the ports.

Do you have any problems with cameras indicated in Device Manager (exclamation icon on the device)?
PS Eye devices are located under the "Imaging devices" tree node.

Try to find and install the latest USB drivers for your laptop.
If you are connecting with USB extension cable, try without it.
Have you tested all your cameras one by one, whether some of them work?
