There is no list of compatible controllers.

From my experience, PS Eyes work well with built-in NEC µPD720200 (USB 3.0) on my motherboard.

For mocap accuracy, it's better to sacrifice the frame rate than the quantity of cameras. Thus, I recommend you to use 4 (or at least 3) cameras at 30 fps if your USB controller can handle this.

Is there any list of 3.0 pci cards that are proven to be compatible with ipimocap?

I am asking because the natural 3.0 usb hub on my mobo (asus sabertooth) that does not pick up the PS eye cameras. So I wonder if 2.0 is the safer choice.

The problem of compatibility has no relation to iPi software, but to the specific models of cameras and USB controller chipsets.
We have never conducted a massive compatibility test of USB controllers. As I mentioned, PS Eyes work fine with NEC USB 3.0 on my motherboard, so I believe they should work flawlessly with any PCIe card based on NEC USB 3.0 chipset. For example, this one:

Please also let me know the exact model of your motherboard (there is a lot of Sabertooth modifications differing with the main chipset), so I could identify the onboard USB 3.0 controller model. Or at least provide the screenshot of Device Manager with "USB Controllers" node expanded.

3. Free onboard USB slots. As said before, the blue are the USB 3.0 that do not work. The other 6 USB cards are all connected to the same hub. The front usb bits do not work.

I just found out the cables I have been using for the 3.0 USB controller were only 2.0.
Therefore, the 3.0 slots may actually work.

Will having a mix of 2.0 and 3.0 Cameras attached to the config make much of a difference?
At the moment it looks like I could have a mix of both.

Does anyone know any problems with this?

According to specs, your M/B has built-in NEC USB 3.0 chipset. It should work fine with PS Eye cameras. But I don't see it among USB controllers on Device Manager screenshot. Maybe, you just need to install correct drivers for this controller. Look for them here:

Select your OS and then "USB" item.

Also, your M/B has 3 internal USB 2.0 connectors, which are probably mapped to another USB 2.0 controller, the same to which frontside USB ports are connected. You say that front ports are not working, but the controller itself may be working (at least there's no warning in Device Manager). So you can try to get working USB ports from the second onboard USB 2.0 controller by installing an USB panel for an internal USB connector, similar to one that motorsep has suggested earlier in this topic.

The StartTech PEXUSB3S2 card I've previously mentioned will fit fine on your M/B.

PS Eye is an USB 2.0 camera, thus it works with USB 3.0 controller in backward compatibility mode. Cable used to connect a device to USB 3.0 does not matter unless the device itself is USB 3.0.
Mixing cameras connected to USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 is OK.
