Just starting out with IPI recorder.

Has anybody had any success at video capture at 320 x 240 60 frames?

Or does it have to be 640 X 480 60 frames... Can it be less frames...

I'm using 3 playstation eye cameras... They are connected to my laptop... It is running Windows 7 64 with 8GB ram.

My processor is an intel i7

HD is 320GB

I have 2 2.0 USB controllers... One built in, I'm connecting two cameras to... Another using 3.0 usb expresscard 54.

I get about 10 dropped frames in 640 mode, but down to 320, it's pretty stable.

If I drop the frame rate in 640 mode, I get less dropped frames.

If you do not plan to capture very quick motions, then better go with 640x480 at lower frame rate - 50 or 40. This will ensure more accurate tracking of smaller body parts like feet and head. For quick motions, use 60 fps mode at lower resolution to prevent blur effect in the video, which significantly reduces the tracking quality.
Anyway, for tracking accuracy, it would be very helpful to use 4 cameras, even at the lower frame rate.

Also, try to discover the reason for frame drops. Check, whether they still appear if you only connect a single camera to the ExpressCard controller.
If yes, then most probably there are compatibility issues between PS Eye and this controller which lead to poor performance. You may try to get another controller based on other USB chipset to improve the performance.

Thanks for the tip.

So I take it 320 at 60 frames is not recommended.

As a bottom line: use 320x240@60 only for capturing quick motions, in other cases use 640x480@50/40/30 (the maximum frame rate that can be handled without frame drops).
