I am thinking of getting a free trial (followed eventually bey the basic edition) with a 4 camera setup (for cost reasons). The problem is that my room is too small: 13 x 9 feet, but there is a room more or less next door which is about 13.9 x 16, just enough space.

Would it be possible for my computer in my smaller room to receive the data recorded by the cameras in the larger room next door? If so, what would be the best way to go about it?

You can use active USB extension cables (repeaters) to connect distant cameras to the PC. These particular cables serve us well:
MonoPrice 32 feet
TRENDnet 39 feet
You can connect several extension cables to each other to cover the required distance. However, I don't recommend to have the total cable length to an individual camera more than 50 feet. Greater length can lead to noticeable latency in data or frame drops.

Also, note that it may be hard to make recordings when you can't supervise a mocap scene and a recording PC at the same time. You may consider using a laptop just for recording, if you already have one. Any decent laptop should be capable of handling 4 PS Eye cameras. You can use an USB 2.0 hub to extend the number of USB ports if needed.

There is actually a computer in the larger room already, but I'm not sure if it can handle IPIsoft, how do I tell if it could?

The requirements for recording with 4 PS Eyes are not very high:

• 2 USB 2.0 controllers, minimum 2 ports per each.
• Drive for storing records capable of write speed 60 MB/s with no video compression, or even less with compression enabled. Better to have a designated drive, not the one where OS is installed.
• Dual core CPU

Basically, any desktop built within last 5 years meets these reqs.

EDIT. Forgot to mention that Windows 7 is the minimum supported OS version for iPi Recorder 3.

I'm afraid the other computer is Windows XP, Fortunately I don't think the cambles will extend beyond 50 feet from my room to the other.

Just a little info about my 'remote' setup. I use long repeater cables as described above to run a connection from our main workstation in the computer room to the living room where we perform our motions. These cables are connected to 3 Kinects and the USB Bluetooth Dongle for the Move controllers.

To run and stop a recording in the computer room from the living room, I use one of the PS Move controllers. It's very convenient because Recorder will automatically save the file on 'stop' and arm itself for the next recording. It works so well that I rarely need to go into the computer room during a recording session.

When I'm setting up my cameras in the living room, I like to bring a laptop into the living room and use Team viewer to monitor and control the recording workstation in the computer room. This is so I can see exactly what the cameras are seeing without leaving the room to check the camera alignment in Recorder. As a bonus feature, I can even operate the pitch motors in the Kinect from the laptop using Team Viewer--very handy. Team Viewer is free for non-commercial use. I find it works much better than Remote Desktop in this situation, especially considering the modest configuration of my tiny laptop computer.
