Thanks for your comment,
but I do not think we fully understand your point.
Brekel that works with Kinect 2 costs $139.
iPi Express costs $95 / year. Yes, it is more expensive if you take it for 3 years (when newer Kinect sensor can be imagined to appear). But iPi Express tracking is much more accurate than Kinect orginal tracking used in Brekel.
I would say that now we have much better offer to Brekel audience, as v2 unlimited Express costed $295.
Now you can pay only when you really need the software, and overall cost is less than it used to be.

If IPI's motivation is purely about offering choice, then "buying to own" should be one
of the options. I'm all for being able to rent the software but I feel constrained by
that being the only option.

The renting option seems flexible at first, but when you look further into it you can also
spot it's flaws, the main one being that you alienate your users from investing into the
technology on a long term basis. That's why I think this decision might bring some short
term financial advantages but presents a bigger risk in the long term.

The mocap suit option is a lot simpler, because you buy the hardware and get the
software "thrown in for free". It also has a lot of technical advantages :
hand capture
finger capture
head capture
real time capture
better use of capture space
plugs/streams into standard 3D apps

Anyway, I'm going to wait till february to see how the other mocap options deliver and
decide then. But that decision will be a long term one and will set me up for the years
to come.

Faceshit also is on a subscription basis and is expensive, but they have a non-commercial license where you can use the software indefinitely for $150. That's a very good idea, don't you think?

I've been considering upgrading to version 3, (I'm using v2 Standard, with 2 Kinects) but the combination of having to invest in another PC ( + Windows 8), and finger-tracking has still not addressed means that I think sadly I think I'll have to simply carry on using v2 until I've found an suitable alternative. Most likely 'the one on Kickstarter' that comes out in February.

I've always enjoyed using Ipi, not because it was markerless, but because I could afford it. I thought by now nearly two years after buying it, I wouldn't have to rely on another 3D application to move my character's fingers.

I hope Ipi do something about this is version 4, and then I will gladly come back into the fold of satisfied customers.

It may very well be that ipisoft is more accurate than Brekel. But I struggle with your second statement that "overall cost is less than it used to be". The only explanation I have is bad faith, because ipisoft costs overall practically doubled, as all the posters in this thread bear witness.

Just to let you know i'll never be a customer as long as rental is the only choice on offer form ipisoft.

If it's an option then all fair play for those who want that but i want the option of owning a licence not drip feed rental.
I'm currently an autodesk customer but will not be by 2016 as they move toward rental only.
your rental price structure is one of the reasons but not THE reason.

Rental = no

subscription has worked for me with autodesk..i have a perpetual licence and early access to updates with an ongoing fee
that's more attractive than more expensive updates..but "rental" whereby the app stops working if you don't keep stumping up cash
no matter what it's bug fix or feature set just means the developer can be outright lazy.

i'm not a adobe CC rental customer either and will never be if that's their only option.

I've drawn a line in the sand on this subject.

I agree!
I bought version 1 pro and version 2 pro.
But rental is definitely no choice for me when the app stops working after the subscription period.

This is terrible news. I own the ipisoft, and it now looks like for the price of an upgrade, I would only get 6 months (granted, you're having a sale now)? That's a terrible deal. Please change back to your original pricing tier or at least give us the option to purchase. I am not happy about this at all. This was supposed to be an affordable mobcap solution. I may have to seek altnerative software now...

Just post here my deception about your rental buisiness.

I have V2 basic, was planning to upgrade to V2 pro and unlucky I discover your new policy just now.
So I stay with V2 basic...

Shipping has started!

The shipping process started in earnest and some lucky few will start —or will have already begun—to receive their tracking numbers. And depending on where you are, it will take between 7-14 days to get to your door. If you didn't get in the Kickstarter you can still pre-order for mid to end of this summer delivery. Cost is now $1400.
