Yeah, I think so too, but they probably always had name change in mind, Kinect for Windows v2 was mostly sent out to developers, I don't really know if it was ever sold by MS on their website for consumer purchase, but possibly was, I didn't follow it that close in the beginning.

With the Kv2 depth only, you can actually see the finger positioning pretty well, or at least make out from a fist to each finger extension well, even at a distance and this was probably not achievable with Kv1, but then again, I barely used the things.

I won't be using the Kv2 on any complex motions either now anyway, but in the tests IMO, it does track faster motions than the Kv1 ever could without loosing the tracking, that was an issue with me and the Kv1 also, even moderately faster motion and it would loose tracking.

Also, any occlusion areas, (as in a basic upright, not fully occluded position), with less effort the tracking can be corrected, and Refine Backwards works much better than Kv1 for cleaning things up fairly well, but comparison now is apples to oranges for me.

With 2-Kv1s, I could never get both depth and RGB video to run together anyway, using one machine, it wouldn't allow it, but could have also been me also in the setup.

As the Owl says, about the Tootsie Pop and how many licks it takes, "a-one, a-two, a-three *crunch*, I will never know how many licks it would have taken to get to the center of Kv1 :)

Oh, that's good to know. Thanks for the info.

As you can tell, I still haven't gotten around to running my own v2 tests. Was too busy dealing with another 3D issue this past week (not iPi related). I think I solved that problem this morning so maybe this week... :)

I understand setbacks, I was just wondering if you even tried to hook up one to your machine and see if the camera would work?

You say you have a newer machine, but it's still a USB 2.0 machine, with no more than 3Gb/s SATA data transfer port on the mobo, so I am wondering if this is enough for the camera, no matter the processor speed.

The new board I got is USB 3.0 with 6Gb/s SATA ports and I just went with a 4th Gen. i3-4330 3.5 GHz to get the hyper-threading, the camera shouldn't need more than that processor and using Hyper X 4G memory.

They say this processor did require a Haskell ready PSU, (I don't know this for sure), but I bought a 500w ready one as an upgrade anyway, so if needed I can put my Radeon 7770 back in, (the board is limited to 1G video memory), but isn't an issue for me with that machine.

This is the minimal setup config. I was interested in, (other than maybe a 80G SSD later), hoping the WD 1T HDD is fine just to dedicate it to the Kv2 and recorder software with hopes of less issues.

In researching the Kv2 connection issues for several days now, it seems the Kv2 is a very picky device on what system configs. it will run on properly.

It also seems if your PSI-e x1 slot isn't a Gen2 or above, the cam will fail to start or not operate properly, (drop outs).

It does work through my main machines motherboard using the Renesas USB 3.0 controller using its PCI-e 2.0 slot.

Some PCI-e x1 slots, even if 2.0, seem to not work properly and MS is saying use your PCI-e x16 slot, but some machines this can't be done and run a graphics card also, or properly, so this is a catch 22 for some configurations.

MS hasn't done a very good job with this camera being ready for consumer purchase and run consistently across the broad range of computers out there, even if they are newer and support USB 3.0.

A list of compatible and incompatible components is far from optimal and a very poor job of MS trying to explain the cams issues.

My suggestion is to do your research on every component you will be using this camera with before you purchase it and find out you will still need upgrades just for it to work properly.

There are reports of certain model ASUS motherboards not compatible with its USB 3.0 Host Controller. (but my ASUS board seemed to be ok).

Reports that the Renesas USB 3.0 controller not being recognized by the Kinect on some configs., and the Renesas controller with D720200 chip working, where the same controller with D720201 or D720202 chip will not, mine is Renesas D720202 chip and seemed to be ok though on my main machine, but I use a direct 3.0 port.
(MS saying use this if you have issues with others: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J8D ... UTF8&psc=1 ... or similar D720200.

This device seems not to be just a PnP device on just any computer, (even if a fairly new model), but seems the new components I just ordered should be compatible, at least I hope so, now that I read all these issues.

These are all just issues I am reading about and may not pertain to your system, but I would check first before you would buy the camera.

Issues may be more prevalent when trying to use 2 or more Kv2 on a lower powered, or older machine or laptop.

If anyone would like to add to, dispute, or leave more information on compatibility issues on this topic, please feel free.
