Hello everyone.

First post on this forum, beginning the process of testing iPi Mocap Studio 3.

Question, has anyone used the openkinect V2 drivers to hook 2 Kinect Xbox One to one computer and been able to use both sensors with iPi Mocap Studio 3?

These drivers support several Kinect V2 on same computer, as long as each sensor has its own USB 3.0 port, here is the link to the drivers.

...

Were you able to test this yet on your machine?

It would be nice for Kinects v2 users if it did work properly for iPi Recorder 3.

I am not sure their recorder is set up to capture multiple streams from 2-Kv2s on one machine though, you would have to ask iPi that.

We are aware about this alternative for dealing with Kinect v2 on PCs. However, the mentions of its capability to run multiple devices on Windows were rather controversal when we were considering this library. So we had chosen not to put the resources in integrating it into iPi Recorder at that time.

I think we'll give it another try in the near future. You'll know if we add OpenKinect support to iPi Recorder.

I'm very interested in this too! I imagine I'll definitely need to upgrade to a new workstation to use this but bringing multi-Kinect One to a single machine should greatly simplify the iPi Mocap system...and you know I'm all for keeping it simple. But getting a brand new computer in here is probably a year or more away so I guess I can wait. :)

That said, being able to connect multiple Kinect One sensors to a single computer should have great appeal to a wider range of users. Most indie animation artists these days prefer using a powerful single workstation with many cores and lots of RAM over a single workstation and a small render farm.

If I could afford it right now, getting a single 'super' workstation is what I would do. In more ways than one, it's become a hassle to manage several computers in a small studio. Sometimes I feel like I spend as much time doing IT work as creating art here. A single computer that did everything I needed would simplify my life greatly right now.

Anyway, yes, please keep us posted on your decisions and progress.

I'm in agreement with Greenlaw.

I was in the middle of upgrading but, came to find out my laptop (the Samsung ATIV series 8) will not work with the Kinect V2. It knows it is connected to a USB 3.0 port but, it is unable to determine the bandwidth... Which kept me from making the move to IPIsoft V3. I already have a workstation ready (AMD 8-Core CPU with the Radeon R7 series video card plus, 2 dedicated USB 3.0 cards, connected via PCIe-4x/6x slots).

So looking forward to this update.
Thanks SteampunkJock for sharing.

Happy Holidays!

Best regards;
D

Sorry, I meant.

In the early stages but, Windows is seeing both Kinect V2's on my one machine. Very cool!

Very cool! Let's hope this can eventually work with iPi Mocap Studio.

Hope so. I am going to try with a 3rd Kinect v2, just need to pick-up another USB 3.0 card.

Best;

Keep us informed.

I might have to try this myself later. I suspect my current workstation will not be able to handle two Kinect v2 sensors even though it has two USB 3.0 card in it, but it will be good to see where it's limit is. Actually, it probably won't work at all...I think one of the USB cards may be incompatible with v2.

My Windows 10 tablet actually handles a Kinect v2 much better than my workstation. But of course there is only one USB 3.0 controller in the tablet, so that's out.

Hmm...for now, I'm feeling very grateful for Mocap Studio's distributed capture capability. :)
