Is anyone else having issues with actor sizing not matching real world measurements with multiple Kinects? I am recording myself and measure 186cm tall but I'm finding I have to set the actor to be around 196cm to get it to match up to the video output and prevent limbs over-reaching and locking out. Is this a common problem or is there something I'm missing?

There's a bit of 'play' involved and I wouldn't worry too much about getting the exact measurement. I often find I need to scale the actor rig up or down slightly as needed to improve the tracking quality.

Yes, scaling can vary a bit, but I found if actor height was matched to depth cloud, it caused a droopy shoulder effect on export or testing in iPi with a target character when I recorded with both versions of the Kinects 1 or 2, though I only used dual cams, but a bit shorter sizing would rectify this better, but I am not sure all users experience this effect.

For me, it usually depended on what I was tracking. I think slightly taller helped me for walking around bits but slightly shorter for sitting or crouching. I think this was because my torso is proportionately slightly longer than the default actor's. My wife is the opposite: she's the same height as me but her legs are proportionately longer than the actor's. Something like that anyway.

It's been less of a problem for me since we now have adjustable limb proportions for the actor rigs.

It may also be how close you are standing to the face view cam? I would think if using 2 or more cams, your scaling should be done with an equal depth cloud in all cams? Where I stood centered to do it anyway.

Yes, I agree depends on users judgement of what tracks best for them, I just noticed too tall or actual size of the depth cloud with the actor caused shoulder droop for me, much more noticeable on characters than on the depth actor, but anything can be corrected of course.

I was using the actor bone scaling after it was implemented, which was a greatly appreciated and needed feature for better tracking accuracy.

I have not used the Kinect v2 with the latest update, but some posts say it's working better for them, so that's a plus for those users, I do still have 1-Kinect 360 that I retried just to try the update and saw some improvement in the foot tracking I thought, mostly the same on the rest of the body.

I also never recorded with depth and color together on dual cam set up, I just used the depth only, I don't think I could even use depth and color together with dual cams, just one cam I can, but no real need to for me.

Can you use depth and RGB together G, when recording with 2 or more cams, Kv1 or v2 in 640x480? Just curious.

Yes, but I don't think RGB is used for body capture/tracking at all. A few years ago, it was mentioned that they might use it to improve head or shoulder tracking but I'm not sure that was ever the case. RGB is used for light calibration though (not necessary with plane calibration of course.)

Apart from calibration, I mainly found RGB was good for referencing details that might be difficult to discern from depth data alone.

Thanks everyone. I found that the spine was compressing into a weird pose when sitting if I used my correct height measurements, but upping it to 200cm seems to improve matters. I can correct these things in MotionBuilder of course but would rather get it right at the point of capture if possible. Good to know that the height figure has some room for manoeuvring, thanks!

I'm using 3x 360 Kinects recording both depth and colour. Has anyone successfully got multiple Kinect 2's working on one machine yet with Ipisoft?

Ok, I see G, I wasn't really happy with a lot of the data after tracking with any of the Kinects, but you do have a long history of using them, so your recommendations about their use would be from that vantage.

I don't believe iPi has implemented the single comp drivers for more than 1 Kinect v2 on a single machine yet, they will have to release a recorder update to do that, but I am sure they are looking into and working to do so if possible.

Oh, yeah, I used to see that all the time. You need to reduce height slightly to prevent the compression but you also want to enable the Stiff Lower Spine option.

Edit: I just re-read your post and it sounds like you're getting better result by increasing height? Interesting. It probably has to do with different body proportions as discussed earlier.

Snapz is correct--multi-Kinect 2 on a single computer isn't available in Recorder yet. This feature will require a third party driver because the official Microsoft drivers does not support multiple Kinect sensors on a single computer. No promises were made but iPi Soft said they would look into possibly supporting the third party driver in a future release.

There's still quite an ugly curve in the spine on captures while sitting if I size the actor upward...but it does get rid of the Kardashian rear end. I basically sized the actor up to match the video footage a bit better. I'll try downsizing the actor and see if that improves things further.

Cheers guys!
