I just tested my other USB 3.0 IOGear 4.0 dongle.

I had to go to their website to upgrade the drivers for Win 10 and install them.

Then I had to start the iPi Recorder v3 with Run As Admin privilege.

Connect USB to Move to pair and unplug when instructed on-screen.

Keep pressing PS button until connected, then all worked fine!

This was just for the IOGear I was using with Win 7, so I am not sure about other USB 3.0 made before Win 10 was released, or any others made to work with Win 10.

Maybe someone else along the way can post if newer USB 3.0 dongles work also.

It worked in a USB 2.0 or 3.0 port and stayed paired even after unplug-re plug.

That's good to know. Thanks for posting.

Come to think of it, my Cintiq Companion 2 tablet has built-in Bluetooth support that I sometimes use for a keyboard and mouse. Hmm. I wonder if that will work with the Move controllers. That would leave my USB ports free.

Will post again when I find out.

Yeah, that would be good for laptop users with built-in bluetooth to know.

A quick followup: I managed to successfully pair a PS Move controller paired with my tablet computer using its built-in Bluetooth support using the latest iPi Recorder (3.2.5.47). I had never installed MIJ on this computer so I'm certain it's using only the native Windows 10 drivers. Yes!

This may work out very well for me. If I can pair all three PS Move controllers to the tablet (slave), it may help my workstation (master) maintain a maximum frame rate for its Kinect One sensor. (As mentioned elsewhere, the tablet actually outperforms my workstation when it comes to Kinect One capture with Depth and RGB data enabled.)

This is so much easier than messing around with MIJ's third party drivers. Maybe more importantly, I feel the life of the PS Move hardware just got officially renewed by iPi Soft and Windows 10.

Congratulations to iPi Soft for pulling off yet another miracle! Great job guys!

Just to complete the info, my Wacom computer's built-in Bluetooth device is Intel-based. This computer is about 1 1/2 years old so I think this answers the question about compatibility for some new Bluetooth adapters. IMO, iPi Recorder and PS Move should work with other current BT adapters, but this may depend on its chipset.

I do have one other BT adapter but it's an older model made by Kensington. I probably won't bother testing it because of its age. And we already know the old ASUS BT-211 works fine. This is a long-discontinued adapter and currently too expensive. If you don't already own one, don't bother. It's better and cheaper to get a new adapter.

So now the question is, which new BT adapters work? I am curious to hear from other users who have newer BT adapters, so please be sure to post your experience.

Okay, I now have all three PS Move controllers paired with the tablet computer, and the connected Kinect One is still maintaining full FPS even with both Depth and Color capture enabled. That's very promising.

Over on the workstation, I wasn't really having an issue with dropped frames but that computer was clearly just barely keeping up. I think having removed the Move controllers from it should help.

I have one question about Move calibration: at what stage does the controller 'align' itself? The reason I ask is that I have one controller that seems to be slightly off on 'heading' by just a few degrees. It's not enough to seriously affect capture quality but I was wondering how I might correct this.

I tried re-calibrating it multiple times but it's always slightly off in the same direction. I thought maybe initial alignment occurred during the 'rest' stage but even when I pointed it in a different direction, alignment was towards the south. Does it always naturally align towards south? In all the time I've used these devices, it does appear that way but until now I thought it was because I always 'rested' the controllers in that direction.

Getting back to the slight heading offset, does this mean my Move is slightly defective. I'm not sure I've ever noticed this when this Move was paired with the workstation but it's possible that it's always been this way. The other two controllers seem seem to be aligned correctly.

I'm not terribly concerned about this but I hope somebody from iPi Soft can shed some light on why this might be happening, and maybe suggest how I can correct this slight deviation if possible. Thanks in advance for any helpful info.

Now, onto recording!

I have tested the latest release with a bunch of BT 2.1-4.0 adapters, all USB 2.0. All of them work fine.
  • ASUS USB-BT211 (BT 2.1)
  • ASUS USB-BT400 (BT 4.0)
  • Azio BTD-V201 (BT 2.1)
  • Cirago BTA-6210 (BT 2.1)
  • StarTech USBBT1EDR4 (BT 4.0)
  • TrendNet TBW-106UB rev.1 (BT 2.1)
  • TrendNet TBW-106UB rev.2 (BT 4.0)
  • Noname based on CSR chip (BT 3.0)

I suppose that most of built-in BT adapters are Class 2 devices with range up to 10m. Therefore there may be problems with loss/delaying the data from PS Moves if the host PC is relatively far from capture area.

As PS Move has magnitometer, it always gets oriented along north-south line after calibration. In contrast to Wiimote, which lacks magnitomter and takes its position during still phase of calibration as a zero rotation (as I recall, though I may be a bit wrong about exact moment).
I think that fixed orientation offset of PS Move may be caused by not ideal position of a magnitometer chip inside. There is no reasons to worry about that, because Mocap Studio does not rely on absolute orientation, but matches orientation of each controller to a scene.

Thank you very much for that info!

Yes, it was probably always like that with this controller, and I only just noticed it the other day. I figured the slight offset might not be too important because it never affected tracking in the past, but I wanted to be sure in case this was a new problem.

The info you posted helps lay that thought to rest. :)
