Is there a way to only allow upper body motions when recording?

Hello,
currently we do not have such mode. The algorithm will be trying to match the whole body.
This feature is considered to be added add in future, but the timeframe is not yet clear.

Is there a reason you can't record the whole body and then just eliminate the lower body keys in an external editor?

That crossed my mind when I first read the original post but I can see where upper body only might be useful if the user has too small an area for full body recording.

Yeah I figured i would be able to do it like how you can in iclone6 which I was going to buy but they don't support dual cameras all these softwares is lacking something that the others got .

That said, dual kinect doesn't require that much space if you don't intend to walk (i.e., 'sitting'.) In fact, you probably only need a 90 degree setup since you won't be turning around. 90 requires far less space than a 180 setup, and since it's a depth sensor, it can still see quite a lot.

90 actually does a decent job with turnarounds too, if you don't mind a little extra clean up.

A 90 degree setup could work, but I found you need enough room to position the sensors equally each way and in many rooms that isn't optimal, or it puts you performing against a wall which isn't optimal either.

A better small room setup to me would be each facing at a 45 degree angle to the center and will still capture rotations well and more room to perform.

Any other system that uses Kinect sensors doesn't really work well at all, waste of time actually unless doing very minimal motion.

You should be able to get a decent result for a forward seated position with just 1 XBOX sensor set about 3-3.5 ft high, but of course you will probably want to do more also.

Yes, you're right. In fact, when I do a '90' setup in our living room, the devices are actually closer to 70 degrees, sometimes less. Over the years I've been able to record full turns with minimal errors even as low as 60 degrees.

This is also true with a 180 setup--in our living room, I typically set up closer to 160 or so. Technically, you don't want to go a full 180 because then the rays from the devices may interfere with each other.

The deleting keys kinda sorta worked the main issue with doing it that way is you need the pelvis keys to stay active the scene causes for the model to cough a few times and it looks terrible without the pelvis keys and beautiful with them. They just need to add a little patch so we can choose whether to do it full body or upper body doesnt seem like it would be that difficult to do maybe they just dont wanna be the best affordable mocap solution out here.
