I am planning to test ipisoft tomorrow morning in NYC. Today, I’ve been plugging in hardware to make sure things work properly. This morning also, I lost the connection between my bluetooth dongle and Asus laptop running Windows 8.
I generally connect my PS3 Move controllers before I shoot to make sure they’re all going to work on site when I record. Since Motion Joy is no longer an option, I followed steps to delete the application from my laptop:/ I shouldn't have done that. Now, not only does Motionjoy no longer connect, I can't pair what was once paired:( I wanted to take advantage of listed features saying that ipisoft recorder could connect to motion controllers without motion joy, but in the connection process, the dongle that once paired with help from a USB>PS3 Move cable that I've used many times. But, whatever software that's supposed to install for my bluetooth dongle, it just doesn't seem to connect anymore in anyway. Can anyone help?:(

please respond as soon as you are able. I'm planning to go to B&H to get the latest Trendnet Bluetooth dongle right now. The one I have may not work with the drivers I've been trying to install from the people who make it. It is obsolete, but the driver was working with Motionjoy. I had 3 controllers paired fine, but when I futzed around with bluetooth settings because motion joy doesn't connect things anymore for some weird reason. please respond if you know something about how to help me:( very sad here because of this

This is the dongle I am using. I think this is the latest version of it. Trendnet 107UB v2:OR. With motionjoy I was able to connect this way, but now, I can't even communicate with the dongle. I can't add the Move controller:(

Is there a list of recommended Bluetooth dongles and software to pair them with PS Move controllers?

I wish I knew what was wrong and what driver I'm supposed to be using. Can I start over with a New bluetooth dongle and magically pair PS3 Move controllers like I used to with motionjoy...which apparently doesn't work anymore:(

When I upgraded to Windows 10, I was using an old ASUS BT dongle with Motion-in-joy before Mocap Studio 3.0 made this driver obsolete. When version three started supporting the native Windows BT driver, the ASUS dongle just worked with it--I dont' think I had to install anything. (But I did have to remove Motion-in-Joy of course.)

Nowadays I'm using the built-in BT device in my Windows tablet. It works fine without Motion-in-joy. My guess is that most new BT dongles should work with the Windows native driver. There is a list of compatible dongles in the thread mentioned above.

First of all, if you're happy with Motion-in-Joy, you can still use it.

As to your particular case. According to your 1st screenshot, Windows doesn't see your BT-adapter. Most likely, it concerns drivers issue. Either drivers for this BT-adapters are not installed, or drivers from Motion-in-Joy still present. Please, open Device Manager and check your hardware configuration.

I've spent the last week trying to solve this, and I'm still not finding a solution:(
We have an IT guy at my job that hopefully, when we meet, is going to help shed light on what I feel is something simple and stupid either turned on or off. When I started this journey, my Move controllers were paired with the dongle presently plugged into my USB port. This was because MotionJoy had done this job. As a habit, I launch MiJ each time I intend to use my Move controllers. But, because it's no longer available offline, I did probably more changes to Windows 8.1 that make whatever connection my bluetooth dongle was supposed to have no longer present. I have over a dozen photos of pertinent problems but to know EXACTLY what's wrong at this point is inches away from being out of my hands.

I fear that I may have to update the OS of this Windows laptop which i'd rather not do because I have 2 different laptops that have same versions of ipisoft recorder that seem to have updates all too regularly. The problem is, as i copy the offline folder to the same directory he does, nothing works at all and Mij seems to crash on launch.

I'm missing something grave in my setup and I don't know enough about Windows OS to know what might be holding me back. Offhand, I'm using (aside from the craze of PSVR) LEGACY PS Move controllers from the PS3 era. They worked a week ago. They don't now. A bluetooth dongle that when I first started testing worked and paired with the Move controllers. How, I don't remember. I use MiJ each time I pair to assure that it works with the hardware but no matter what driver I install or what setting I set, nothing connects. What the hell did I do? Is this a Windows 10 problem as I continue to salvage my present 8.1 OS? Is this a loss of legacy hardware like Move controllers because....fuck it, pop culture doesn't use them so why not make an update that takes them away?. What model of computer are you using? what bluetooth device are you connecting with? There are a dozens of makes and models of hardware and like hardware that I'm not knowing one from the other. As is, the help I've received so far is leaving me cross-eyed and I've really been fighting what's wrong here. I need specifics based on my hardware and software, and that's a lot to ask of another PC user who is going to have both that's different than what I have in front of me. I need more than a "google" answer or "check device settings" answer here. Still struggling. not that I don't appreciate the help, but I'm still stuck:(

No bluetooth device connection
No usb pairing connection
no motion joy either online (which is dead apparently) or offline (which crashes on launch).

will talk to IT at my job to see if he can help. My photos and specs aren't enough I fear for anyone not adjacent to the machine. But if there's something you know that I don't that wasn't mentioned.... The advice I've had so far leaves too many questions of hardware and work arounds that I don't feel should be necessary unless I really fudged things up and need to go to settings, turn on/off, restart, hit 7, restart, insane, etc:)

I don't mean to sound too mean to those who have reached out. I'm just really frustrated by change and something changed that bought me to this place I've set myself up in. only though ipisoft have I been able to achieve performance capture within my range of expertise and control and I love what it does. The motion controllers are vital in my future work and something clearly disconnected them in a way I don't know how to bring back. I need them to come back. I need to know what Bluetooth support works, what has been lost with updates, things turning on and off that when I last went through this, the process may have been as tough. Every Move controller and Bluetooth dongle I've used for over a year has worked perfectly up until a week ago and I need to know how to solve things. I really do appreciate input here. I'm running out of ideas is all and I don't know what to do:(

Aren't Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 native drivers the same, no driver updates available for the dongle version you stated since 2014, so maybe just reinstalling drivers may help? Here is link to drivers.zip ... http://www.trendnet.com/support/support ... _TBW-107UB

It should then just be able to connect with the iPi update using Win 8.1 native drivers once it sees the BT dongle? Your machine seeing the BT dongle should have nothing to do with iPi Recorder, but has to be seen first of course by your machine to connect any BT devices through it.

Yes, the Motion in Joy connection is broken now, there is no access and I never uninstalled it from my machine to switch to using the native drivers for Win 10, I just tried to run the DS3 Tool and it says connection error now.



I tested the old dongle I used with Win 7 (IOGear) and it connected fine using the iPi update on Win 10, but I stayed using the ASUS dongle I was using when MiJ drivers were needed with iPi, just don't need MiJ now.

Not that I should have had to, but I did re-install the BT drivers for my dongle(s). Even got excited that I found the original installation CD that came with them. Even before the CD, I'm pretty sure I installed the correct drivers. I say drivers because I had more than one. The computer clearly reads them. What it reads and could pair to is a different matter.

I was looking at a walk through video on YouTube to remember the process for pairing through Mij. Apparently it not only is supposed to pair the Move controllers but also installs the driver if it were missing. Mine isn't missing so the key feature of it would be pairing. Pairing doesn't work with the native or installed driver for the BT.

I could have sworn I saw alternative applications on YouTube to do what Mij does only without it. Since ive never done it any other way I'll have to learn if that's possible. Wondering if my model of BT is the problem and if I can get a new one by some other manufacturer without going crazy to find one that pairs. Hopefully I learn more in the coming week. Would like NOT to be in Windows 10 but if that's the only way and things will work, I will go there. Thanks:)

Sorry, to hear you're having so many problems with that. I was pretty frustrated when I ran into dongle issues with Windows 8 because that's what my new (back then) computer was running and I wasn't about to buy Windows 8 upgrades for all my older computers. Fortunately, a short time later, MS started giving out free Windows 10 upgrades, and I wound up upgrading all my computers (except for one really old Win 7 tablet laptop that wasn't entirely Win 10 compatible.) That solved my BT and networking problems, especially after iPi Soft updated iPi Mocap Studio to use the native Windows drivers.

FWIW, I'm finding that running Mocap Studio (and other animation programs) has been a better experience under Windows 10 than it was under Win 8, and we now have more choices between modern and cheaper BT dongles.

Unfortunately, MS's free Windows 10 offer ended last summer but, for iPi Mocap Studio, I'm guessing it may only be needed on the computer using the BT dongle. (IMO, it may be worth getting everything running on the same OS for smoother networking, though.)

If you do decide to upgrade to Windows 10, be sure to run one of those free backup programs that came out a while back. That way, you can rollback your existing OS in case something goes wrong. That's what happened with my old Win 7 tablet computer. (FYI, the Windows 10 installer allows you to rollback too but only up to 30 days; third party backups don't have this time limit.) For all my other computers, the Windows 10 upgrade was mostly painless. (I even transferred one machine's Windows 10 OS to an HDSSD with absolutely no problems using a free program.)
