Hi,

We are trying to setup an installation for users to control an avatar with there bodies. The scene is being created in Unity and we want to use Mocap Studio to send the bone data to our character.

While the capture is an acceptable 20-25fps by the time we stream the bones to Unity we are down to around 5-8fps. Is this typical with live streaming and data streaming? Are there any hints to improve this?

Thanks and best wishes

B

Hi
I'm not sure what your 20-25 fps refers to. What are the numbers you see in the Live Session pane in iPi Mocap Studio - Camera, Network and Tracking frame rates?

Hi, and thanks for your reply, vmaslov,

The fps refers the approximate number for the camera (23) and network (22). The tracking was actually a few frames less than those (17-18). the stream to unity was considerably down on those, to my eyes around 4-8 fps. This video [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIvxh0njfJc] captures the experience pretty well. The endpoint of the performance is very slowly processed.

I see.
Not having stable 30 fps in "Camera" indicates some problems from the start. Have you tried connecting the Kinect to different USB ports?
What are the specs of your PC?
What are the numbers for CPU and GPU load during the live tracking? You can look in the Task Manager, or get a more accurate GPU number from the GPU-Z utility.

Hi, I am new here, but I would like to refresh this topic as I am experiencing the same issues using Unreal 5.0.3. My situation is slightly different as in the video we saw in this thread, also the movements in IPI Studio seem to be jittering. In fact in Studio, on my side, everything is very very smooth. Whereas in Unreal, once connected to a metahuman (low quality one) it starts to drop. I like it honestly but I am trying to have it perfect.

I used the trial version and two Kinect First version (360). I will try with two kinect XBOX ONE and I will also try to use it with Unreal 4.27. It seems to me a matter of computing power more than anything else. Lighting can be a problem? It is very well lit in fact... The clothes of the actor though, should be a little bit less chaotic. But still, the IPI Studio live was just perfect. So... It's when you cross from Studio to Unreal.

So my specs are: i9 9900K, 32 GB, 512 GB ssd, RTX 2070

Bye!
A.
