I'm not exactly sure what you're asking, but I'll assume you want to know if can iPi DMC use .avi movies other that the ones you create with iPi Recorder. Technically, yes if the movie follows the rules for what the software expects; but practically speaking, no, because it's unlikely that a movie that's not intended for use in DMC will meet the criteria.
iPi Recorder does save an .avi file, but much more goes into making the video iPi DMC friendly, like careful planning, camera positioning, and lighting. Also, wearing the correct wardrobe makes a big difference in the how well iPi tracks the motion. Also, the .avi needs to be saved using a codec that preserves whole frame data. (The current Recorder's native format built-in codec does that.)
As for the number of people in a session, you can only shoot one person at a time. You will need to choreograph multiple characters in a motion capture editing program or 3D animation program after you export the .bvh data from iPi DMC. For motion capture editing, there is Motion Builder, Animeeple, and eventually Jimmy|Rig will allow you to import your own .bhv files.
