Whenever i try to rearrange the camera views or change resolution in iPi recorder two of my three cameras views just go green although the cameras are still active (the lights are on on them so they are capturing).
I guess this means its a problem with the driver not updating the view or something? Anyone else have this or similar problems?
I hear people talking about rearranging cameras in many other places on this forum and without comment of problem so I thought this was a bit strange.. o_O
just another beta bug i guess but could it be specific to certain cameras or systems or something?
Using 3 logitech c 120 webcams at 320x240 the one enhanced usb controller can handle 30 fps though the usb bandwidth kills the framerate if the exposure is increased at all but with my new floodlight its ok. Will probably upgrade soon.. though i noticed theres not much difference with any of the cheap logitech webcams so unless your going to get something significantly better the very cheapest is best value.

using onboard enhanced usb controller

I have the same motherboard. There's a group of USB ports that are useless!

The ones nearest the mouse connector are ok the ones nearer the middle of the board are useless for this for some reason. The internal connectors come off to some front panel ones on my case and with a USB 3 card I can get 6 cameras @ 640x480 60fps without problems on that motherboard when saving to SSD.

Experiment with the other ports and for what it's worth, the PS3 camera is £20 each from Ebay, no good reason for not using them in my view.

Interersting. According to device manager those ports do come from an enhanced usb controller (meaning usb 2 480mbps) and the bandwidth is being used: 20% system reserved 16% per cam and 1% usb composite device while running iPi recorder with 3 cams at 320x240 at 30.3 fps no compression. that totals 69% bandwidth used so your right, running at 640x480 60fps each cam theoretically should use 128% of my bandwidth. Using a usb 3 card, usb 3 cable each cam at 480x640 60fps should use 12% bandwidth. Im curous how many ports the usb 3 card has, does the pci side bus even support the cumulative usb bandwiddth? theyl have to adapt mobo architechture for high bandwidth peripherals with all orders of new specifications yet again :S If that works well i may just get one though i hate to cram more stuff in there.. :S

I don't know. I just know that I plugged 3 PS3 cameras into some ports and it was unusable and yet I could better that with my laptop! I couldn't even get 2 in use on this one group without massive frame drop.

I then plugged one camera in at a time while watching dropped frames %age in the ipi recorder and found that there's a group of 4 that were just useless for whatever reason. I didn't bother even looking to see if they were USB 1.1's or anything, I wasn't bothered since there's enough ports to choose from even for 6 cameras.

It would seem strange if the usb 2 controller didnt support the cumulative bandwidth of its usb ports..
Yet one cam which should have a stream data rate of <10 MB/s uses 16% of the controllers bandwidth suggesting the controllers max is a little under the max for one usb 2 connection, yet it runs 4 or 6 ports! that seems a bit silly.. i guess your right it doesnt really support proper usb 2 speed for the amount of ports it offers, but it is not false in saying it supports usb 2 because it supports one usb 2 maxed bandwidth connection! Nice one Asus :S Oh well its still a good board..
well i can at least run my cheapo logitech c120 cams of it but since im thinking of upgrading to ps3 cams thanks for bringing this to my attention! :)
Guesss ill have to look at getting a usb 3 card, booster cables and ps3 eyecams.. but first i just captured and calibrated my first promising looking test..the ground plane actually looks... not messed up this time :D Ill post a link if it turns out. I guess there a thread just for results and stuff..

Just to re-iterate, it's only one group of 4 ports on the back of the board that I couldn't get more than one camera into. The rest are fine. With this board and one USB3 card, I do 6 PS3 cameras at max resolution max frame rate when saving to SSD.

Just play around to find a combination of ports that work. Don't worry about the theory, just plug them in and watch how the recorder works. I'm low tech :)
