Hi there.

I recently purchased iPi Soft Desktop Motion Capture Studio and am currently working on my first capture. Everything has gone just fine up until I tried to export my animation. (I want to export the animation for use in Poser.)

I imported my target character (the Poser 4 default male character in T-pose, automatic scaling enabled). iPi Soft seems to correctly transfer the animation using its built-in profile. Source bones and target bones match up correctly.

However I do NOT see the Poser skeleton side-by-side with the default iPi Soft skeleton, I only see the default iPi Soft skeleton. (Yes, the side-by-side radio button is selected.)

I export the animation.

I import the animation into Poser 6 (along X axis, automatic scaling enabled). The figure ends up in a distorted lump, twitching pitiously. Looks like a Star Trek transporter malfunction.

Oddly, if I import along the Z axis without scaling, I get something closer to correct. The hips, at least, seem to move correctly, although none of the other body parts move at all.

Even more oddly, if I export the animation for 3D Max Biped, I get the best results in Poser. From the hips down, the figure moves correctly, hips up nothing.

If I export using the default iPi Soft skeleton I get no movement at all.

(BTW, I tried opening the bvh in bvhHacker and it wasn't even a human figure, just a lump of blue and red shards.)

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks for any guidance you can provide.

Peter

Peter, the problem may concern the version of Poser. We have tested with version 8. And as far as I understand you are using version 6. This is only hypothesis.

To make a progress in solving this problem could you please send to us BVH file with target character which you have exported from Poser. We'll compare rig from this file with one from 8 version.

Thank you for detailed and clear description of the problem!

Thanks for your reply.

Actually, I have Poser 8 as well as Poser 6, I just use 6 more often. (Still transitioning.) Sadly, I tried my bvh in Poser 8 and got identical results.

Is the fact that I used the Poser 4 default character (rather than a more recent Poser character) as a target character the problem perhaps? Well, why wait...I'll try someone else and let you know if it works.

Is the fact that I can't see the Poser skeleton side by side with the iPi Soft skeleton a clue to what's wrong, perhaps?

I will be delighted to send you the bvh and the target character if you still think this will help, but I'm not certain how you want me to do that. Is there a way to attach files at this forum, or should I simply attach them to an e-mail to Image, or is there some other method you'd prefer?

Thanks!

Peter

Update.

I just tried using the Poser 8 Ryan figure as my target figure. Again, the automatic profile worked and the bones lined up correctly, but again I can only see the original iPi Soft skeleton, no Poser skeleton beside it. I exported the animation and imported that bvh into Poser 8. Sadly, I get the exact same results as before.

Open to any suggestions you may have.

Thanks!

Peter

Peter, what version of iPi Studio are you using (menu Help -> About)?

Try disabling IKs before exporting the bvh.

Oh! It explains this trouble. This version has a bug with scale. For more info see http://www.ipisoft.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=4798

Thus to solve your problem it is enough to update to the latest version 1.1.0.112. By the way this version has improved jitter removal with tuning options (see http://www.ipisoft.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=4840).

That's good news.

Can someone tell me how I go about downloading the patch to update to the latest version? I can't seem to find any place to do that on the iPi Soft web site.

Thank you for your help.

If you have internet connection on the computer with iPi Studio, just run iPi Studio and allow update when prompted. In other case download the latest setup from download page: http://ipisoft.com/downloads_index.php (click on link "iPi Studio"). Note that there is no need to uninstall the previous version because setup package will detect old version and will upgrade software automatically.
