I use Kinect to record the video. And when i finish recording , i can't open it by Windows Media Player, my PC noted that the file format is not supported
or the file can not be decoded.
And I can not open it in DMC either, my PC appears :"Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt."

I'm getting the exact same error, except I'm just trying out the trial version by following along with the video tutorials.

This is frustrating. I can't even open the .avi that I downloaded from this site. I can play it fine in VLC.

Update to my problem of not being able to open the tutorial AVI files in iPi Soft:

I receive the following error:
"Cannot open file '[filepath]'. Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt."

Tried running iPi Soft as an Administrator; same error.

Downloaded another AVI calibration video I found in the forums; same error.

Googled this error message and it seems to have something to do with enhanced security in .NET. I am in no ways a programmer so I can't judge whether or not this is valid. (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/Aa480472)

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 on a Intel Core Duo 2.40Ghz computer, FWIW.

This is a video codec problem. It has nothing to do with enhanced security in .NET.

It looks like you have some broken third-party video codecs on your PC that interfere with standard DirectShow codecs. The fact that you can play the video with VLC means nothing because VLC has its own integrated implementation of all video formats and codecs and is not using Windows codecs. A more important question is, can you play your video with Windows Media Player?

Please use GSpot Codec Information Appliance ( http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ ) to diagnose your codec problems. If GSpot shows that Windows uses some non-Microsoft codec for playing your Kinect video then you may need to uninstall the problematic codec.

Michael, thank you! I was NOT able to play using WMP so I used Gspot and discovered that I didn't have the Xvid codec installed. I installed that and everything is working properly now.

I have the same problem all so suddenly. I cant even open my Mocap files!

I think the culprit is the recent update of DIVX where I updated the codecs!

How can I reverse it?

I have found a solution.

Uninstalling DivX! (Duh)

But wait... there is another problem. Divx wont uninstall.

If you get the same problem, disable all Divx processes in task manager (Divx update etc..) before uninstalling them in Control Panel because the uninstaller will hung up if you dont do these first. Hopefully they fix this bug in their next versions.

iPiDMC is the most important software in my computer and I cannot let it be interfered with faulty codecs so you guys be careful with updating your codecs.

I have installed gspot but it doesnt help me, I uninstalled x-vid and still no joy, there are around 200 codecs installed on my machine so what would you suggest I do? How do I tell which codec is being used for kinect playback and how do I change remove it? this is really frustrating..
