I also use 2xSSDs in my main machine (one system, one data) - I guess one day we wear them out with the limited r/w and all, but this machine is 2 years in and going strong so far.

I have to agree. Recording to RAM would only allow you to record short clips/motions, and then you'd have to constantly keep 'off-loading' the data to a real drive; that's not very efficient.

SSD's have come down in price lately and I highly recommend them for use with iPi DMC. Yes SSD is still more expensive than a hard disk when you compare cost per GB, but what you're paying for is performance. (Better than RAID, in my limited experience.) Also, you do not need a very large SSD for iPi DMC; 40GB is still very good if you're on a tight budget. Of course you should be prepared to transfer the data to another drive if you record a lot of motions.

BTW, I've read that it's possible to have your OS on the same SSD that you capture too. I'm not sure I would recommend this but if you're limited to what you can fit inside you're computer this might be an option to look into.

EVGA 01G-P3-1372-ER Graphics Card GeForce GTX 460 1024MB PCi-E HDMI DVI arrived today, just installed and tested the tracking and jitter times.

I've gone from 3-4 secs a frame to 0.47 secs! and Jitter time is down to 0.12-0.13 secs (which is like watching it live in slo mo).
[Edit make that 0.29-0.32 on the next test - thats almost slo mo speed. Amazing!]

That's quite exciting and means that if we are sensible capturing short takes (where the whole take will be in the movie) then processing wait times will be down to 2-3 minutes from about 1-1 1/2 hours! (where we also weren't so careful to only act what was in the shot)

Wow! This thing has gone from toy to mainstay of my animation now. All very exciting.

.. If only I could design a set as fast as that, ho hum.

Cool! Glad this has worked out for you.

BTW, remember that you can set multiple takes in the timeline for a single video, which means you can have multiple versions of a specific action or multiple shots worth of actions, and then you can track and save only what you actually want from each take.
