That would require of all our users to have internet connection all the time when working with iPiStudio. We do not want to force that. That's why we implemented the activation/deactivation scheme.

Please note that according to EULA one license is for one computer. Technically we did not check that until the recent version but it always was stated explicitly in the EULA. We offer discounts for customers who order multiple licenses, and activation/deactivation technology allows moving license to another computer.

Okay, thanks! I think the new system will be fine for me. These days I normally run iPi Studio only on my workstation at home. I did have a copy of it installed on my laptop to check and test things during beta a while back but of course this really isn't necessary anymore, and if I did need to run iPi Studio on my laptop, activation/deactivation does give me the option.

Is is still okay to run Recorder on multiple systems? This is more significant to me because I run Recorder with PS3 Eyes on the workstation but I prefer to run Recorder with Kinect on an old laptop. Thanks in advance for any info.

I'll try deactivation/activation of iPi Studio from my workstation to the tablet and back again tonight, and let you know how it goes. I don't think I'll need to do this often but it will be good to know I can do this if it becomes necessary. :)

Yes must have multiple recorders please. I don't mind DMC on one PC for processing but for capture I want to use a laptop where it suits.

iPiRecorder is a free application and you can run it on any number of computers (see iPiRecorder EULA for details).

Thanks for the clarification! I thought that was the case for Recorder EULA but I wanted to be sure it wasn't changing.

Hi Michael,

I just tested the new license scheme, moving the activated license from the Tablet PC to the Workstation. This new system seems to work fine. So far I'm good with it. :)

Question: If a hardware problem occurs (machine or drive failure,) and I'm unable to reactivate the license on the computer because I had to replace a component, will it be easy to correct this situation? I have to ask because I've had this problem many times with various programs that use a similar license scheme. I'm happy to say that in all recent cases the problem was solved immediately by the developer/publisher, but I've had a few incidents in the past where I couldn't get a resolution for days.

For example, many years ago if I had an activation issue with an Adobe product, I could be kept waiting on the phone for hours, but in more recent times when this problem happens, Adobe will get me up and running again in a few minutes.

With Toon Boom, I've had this problem twice, and I learned that while they are quick to fix the situation, it won't happen during a weekend. Not so good if I'm working that weekend. :p

My only concern is that if you are tightening the licensing (did it just check that two machines were not running it at the same time before? I've only had it on one box), that there should be some way to deal with hardware failure.

I recently had a motherboard die and was fortunately able to purchase a new one with the same chipset, but not exactly the same model - and of course the MAC address changed on the internal IP chips.

This was not the box I had iPiStudio on, but ... after seeing a $450 SuperMicro motherboard die (and out of warranty, of course), I'm a bit more paranoid.

I'm assuming that you would run iPi DMC in trial mode on the new or changed system until iPi Software gets a chance reset your registered license. It would be good to hear from iPi about what the official plan is.
