It takes me 7 seconds/per frame. Is this bad? I have Intel i3 with 540M 1GB. If any could help I would appreciate it. Thanks

Forgot to mention that these specs are on my laptop. On my iMac, its a different story. Same, Intel i3 but with ATI 4670, it runs close to 1.5to 2 seconds per frame. I am not sure what the problem is.

Tracking speed is entirely dependent on your graphics card. For example, my old computer had a Geforce 9800 and tracking took over 10 seconds per frame, sometimes a lot longer. When I got my new computer, it came with a Geforce GTX 250 and my speed improved to about 4 seconds per frame. Since then I've upgraded my card to a GTX 460 and now my tracking speed about about 0.67 second per frame.

I think there are benchmarks in the iPi Wiki that compares performance of common graphics cards.

To answer your original question "Is that bad?", it's all relative of course...how much footage do you need to track and how much time can you afford to spend on it? But if you're just wondering what's typical, I hope this info above is helpful.

That's strange. Isn't Nvidia 540M (Laptop, Win 7) a higher card than a ATI HD 4670 (Mac, BootCamp Win 7) so this means that its supposed perform alot better than the 4670. For me it was reverse, the 4670 did way better at 1.7f/s and the 540M at 7f/s. I will have to investigate it more. Thanks!

I don't know...maybe it's a driver issue? FWIW, laptop graphics cards are by design slower than their desktop counterparts. The numbers I cited above were all from desktop computers. I don't normally do iPi tracking on a laptop but if you like, I can benchmark my Tablet PC this weekend which has an ATI Radeon HD 4550. (I would expect it to be a lot slower than my desktop computer.)

Yes, that might be it. I will leave the iPiRecoreder to the laptop and the tracking to the desktop, that solves everything. Thanks Greenlaw!

For Kinect capture, that's exactly what I do. For PS3 Eye, I have to transport my desktop computer to my 'stage' location, which can be a small hassle so I try to do as much as I can with Kinect and save the really tricky stuff for the PS3 Eye setup.

Either way, all my final tracking is done on the desktop computer. This also simplifies the licensing issue since I'm not required to transfer my iPi license to the laptop just to capture with Kinect.
