Hi all,

I took a stroll down to my local PC World yesterday, armed with a printout of the tech specs for ipiSoft. (I'm going to be trying out a 3xPlaystation Eye camera set-up, rather that the 1xKinect setup)

I'm primarily a Mac user, so I don't have a PC laptop - only a MacBook Pro laptop.

Now the guys there told me that I would be able to run ipiSoft using 'Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac' http://store.apple.com/us/product/H7001LL/A/parallels-desktop-7-for-mac?fnode=MTY1NDA1

or even try out Apple's 'Bootcamp' http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/

Has anyone out there tried this out? I'm wondering if this would work ok, as the MacPro laptop I have possibly looks like it could handle the Basic Edition of ipiSoft.

Am I kidding myself into thinking I've found a work-around?....any help/warnings on this would be much appreciated. Last thing I want to do is have to buy a PC laptop purely to run one piece of software.

Hello Carder!

Some of our users use iPi MoCap on their Macs. There is no need to buy 'Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac' because Apple's 'Bootcamp' also works. Note that you should boot under Windows instead of running Windows in virtualization mode from OS X.

Thanks for your reply Andrew. I only thought of Parallels as an option because apparently it allows me to toggle back to Mac OS if I need to without restarting.

So what you're saying is that Bootcamp will sucessfully run ipiSoft as it's pretty much identical as a PC running Windows 7?

Does anyone know what Mac spec you'd need to handle 3 eye cameras?

..or perhaps it's trial and error at this stage of the software's development.

Thanks for that. Could someone possibly tell me whether I need to get Windows 7 Home Premium or do I need the Professional version to run ipiSoft?

Hi, me again! OK....I've installed Windows XP (Home Edition) via Bootcamp on my Mac laptop, and I got all excited. (How dare I....you know it's not gonna work!)

Then I go to install the iPiStudio installer (demo) and it asks me install Windows Installer 3.1, Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and the Microsoft XNA Framework Redistributable 3.0

...I click 'Install' and i get the following message...

0x800c0005 - Error downloading
"http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/4/7/147ded26-931c4daf-9095-ec7baf996f46/WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe" to (my PC location yadda yadda)
The system cannot locate the resource specified.

Now, does anyone out there know what that is in English? I'd really appreciate your help, because I'm at the last hurdle!

There is a link in the first paragraph concerning installing new drivers.

Try that I think it will work for you, I hope.

Cheers.

P.S.

I can try to help you skype if you wish.

Thanks mrbones for trying that, I installed the 32-bit driver for my Windows XP Home Edition but I'm still getting the same message.

I wish I knew what file it was looking for. Yes, maybe we should talk on Skype soon as PC's are completely my weak area.

Drop me an email at paul_carder@hotmail.com and let's try and arrange a suitable evening :)
