Yes, good summation.. better quality = more time, true no matter the system, with dependency on the character mesh quality/weighted properly, rig used and several other

factors for better results.

I personally don't take it as critism of the program, I have expressed opinions both good and bad about it also, and it does have some issues, but all do, just different ones

I would like to see some of your animations done solely with MoBu one day, I don't know if you are finally fully using iPi, or just still in the testing mode with it.

I know the final results that can be achieved with MoBu, but it's nice to see others show what they get, and doesn't have to be the final OCD animation, just some basic

cleaning to show the effects on a character and show users basic results.

Thanks for your comments, explaining your points may help some others in their process.

Max vs MoBu edit, with same bvh file, just to demo the results.

Only limited key reduction/time sliding on Max Biped as before, do note as before I could have smoothed it more with more time, I didn't try.

Only smoothing filters and very minimal, (one small area), key reduction in Max on MoBu edit, this was the resulting animation with very little work.

No adjustment layers used on either edit.

I left some bad keys on Max edit to demo how MoBu smoothed them with its filters only.

Yes, there is a noticable difference in smoothing, if you have the ability to use MoBu.

I would like to add something to this conversation..

Have you tried not using the trajectory filter or smoothing at all?

Personally and I hope I dont get banned, I prefer to make the IpISOFT motions UNFILTERED then use Ikinemas Ik solver to fix everything.

The reason for that is because iPis Ik Solver is not that great and when you use filtering and or post process smoothing, it actually dedegrates the action or animation from the original raw data, which is somewhat bumpy.

In otherwords, when you use the iPiSoft Smoothing algorythm its taking away from the original animation just so that it can appear smooth. I prefer not to do this.

Let me know if you need a video that demonstrates this.

One would have to assume that Ikinema is also averaging the jitter to smooth it, but I guess you're suggesting the results are more refined with Ikinema? :)

Yes, please post a demonstration video, especially if you can show a side-by-side comparison.

I haven't used Ikinema myself but have been very interested in it for some time. We typically use Motion Builder for editing iPi Mocap Studio data but the version we have is really old and I'm always looking for a good lower-cost alternative to Motion Builder for editing.

I know what you are meaning, but yes, in order to smooth any jitter with any algorithm, whichever is used has to remove some data and smooth curve data, Webanimates' algorithm works well when adjusted properly.

The FireFox version of Webanimate works well, at a cost of $90 a year (deal right now) to purchase subscription, renewal at $180 yr, but it's not as good as the plugin for MoBu or Maya, but they are at substantially higher cost also, I just ran the trial on MoBu.

Webanimate is a good lower cost alternative to MoBu or Maya, better solver, I use it also, definitely recommend using it if you don't have MoBu or Maya.

I choose to run the iPi settings very low on JR and bump the TF on export, it doesn't take that long and why not start from a more smoothed animation prior to using Webanimate ACP? This minimal smoothing by iPi won't be that detectable to the eye in the overall animation anyway, only if you overlayed it on the actual video.

Agreed, too much JR in iPi will give bad results.

I use only PS Eye cams, so I can't really address the Kinects V1 or V2 with iPi, V1 didn't perform well enough for me and V2 with multiple computers needed isn't attractive to me either, others may like either ones.

I have used Webanimate on some pre-rigged custom characters and the hips rotations on hard bends and floor actions didn't give the expected effects or results with the mesh, and I could never get it to adjust properly, maybe it is something I wasn't doing right, but I couldn't.

Auto-rigged characters it works much better. The same happened in the plugin for MoBu, but you have more control.

General movements it works really well though.

I will post some videos soon using Webanimate without filtering in iPi, with some less active animations, this is where iPi does have some issues even after filtering, and show a side by side outcome, with iPi filtering first and without any.

I just upgraded to Win 10, so I wanna test both programs anyway on it.

Question:

I do have an issue where Win 10 won't allow me to connect my 3rd drive (backup drive) it locks up on the BIOS splash screen when I try, anyone else running more than 2 drives on Win 10 through the BIOS, or having this issue?

Can you post if you are and what I could do to correct this, I have tried several things, and posts in the Win 10 forums really don't addresses this accurately, but I will keep trying, I need this drive working and would like it inside the machine, not in an external box, but may have to go that route.

All worked fine on Win 7.

I run Win10 with 1xSSD + 2xHDD + 1xDVD in my box. Don't know what could happen to yours. Have you tried to swap SATA ports they are connected to?

Yes I have, I am still working through the issue, I just installed 10 yesterday and the first time I tried, since I guess I have bootable OS on each main drive, when it locked up I thought I had a serious issue, but I just unhooked all but the main C: drive and it reinstalled fine, I didn't think, I had to do with when I installed Win 7 also, just forgot.

When I re-hooked up the other drives, it would only boot with 2, so I am not sure yet, I will get it eventually I hope.

Thanks for the reply.

Just curious but is it a network drive you're having trouble with?

I don't have a problem with iPi Mocap Studio and drives but after upgrading to 10, I am running into an issue with our render controller not seeing shared mapped network drives. In my case, the controller can't write its own config files unless I elevate the program's privileges to Administrator, but when I do that, it can no longer see the mapped network drives. Sounds counter intuitive but I read elsewhere that it's designed to do that. Ugh!

(I know it's OT but if anybody has any ideas for fixing my problem, please message me. Thanks!) :)

Sorry, I know this isn't the forum for this, was just trying to find out if anyone knew about this issue, but...

No, it's not a Network Drive, funny thing is I can set that SATA plug as a Hot Plug and plug in the drive after windows starts and it pops right up and diskcheck says no

errors, but if I restart with it plugged in, it just freezes on the BIOS screen, when I unplug it and restart, system boots just fine, plug it back in and it pops right up, smh, I

don't know.

So, I know the drive and cable is ok at least, nothing more yet though.

Just following up on my own post: Tonight I started up my computer and render controller, and the Windows Firewall window popped up asking if I wanted to allow it. I've had the controller software installed all week and this never came up before. I allowed it of course, and now my render controller is seeing the network drive and working correctly. Weird. Hopefully this sticks.

I did hear from other users about having various hardware/software issues after installing 10 but the problems mysteriously fixed themselves on their own. I guess Windows 10 might simply be taking it's time configuring or installing stuff in the background. That doesn't really make sense to me but so long as my system is working now, I'm not going to complain it. :)
